Kelly dominates as Honley bounce back

DRAKES HUDDERSFIELD: Leaders Delph & Dobcross hurried to a seven-wicket thrashing of Broad Oak, who were felled 68 in 32 overs.

Bilal Khiljee did most of the damage with a 6-24 return, Adnan Ghaus ably assisting with 3-24. Delph took just 12 overs to reach their target, No 4 Faisal Butt making an undefeated 42.

Second-placed Honley bounced straight back from their first league defeat of the season at the hands of Kirkburton with a six-wicket home victory over Slaithwaite. Australian Chris Conners made a half-century for Slaithwaite, who were bowled out for 157 in 48 overs, Ritchie Howarth, Harlon Haye and Tom Craddock tormenting the batsmen.

Simon Kelly and Richard Jakeman had an opening stand of 98 for Honley, all but 10 of Kelly’s entertaining 66 runs coming in boundaries. Jakeman’s contribution was 30 and No 5 Danny Howard hit an unbeaten 39.

Elland climbed above Golcar into third place after the Wood brothers spearheaded an eight-wicket home win over Barkisland, who still await their first league win. Dan Wood’s undefeated 75 contained 14 boundaries, Greg hitting 12 fours and a six in his 59. The pair shared a second-wicket partnership of 98. Gary Colman made an undefeated 57 for the losers.

Kirkburton are fourth, but they had only four runs to spare at Scholes. Opener Andrew Smith was dismissed one run short of his century by Andy Alsop and No 6 Oliver Davidson contributed a vital 61 for the winners, who totalled 236-7. Andrew Smith then took five wickets and despite half-centuries from Tom Boorman and Iqbal Khan, Scholes were bowled out just short of their objective.

Golcar lost by four wickets at Skelmanthorpe, late order men Paul Roebuck and Peter Lombard taking the home side to victory with four balls to spare. Roebuck made an unbeaten 68 and Lombard’s contribution was 32 not out. Australian Paul Davis made 27 and took four wickets.

Shepley squeezed a one-wicket victory at Marsden with just two balls remaining. Craig Glover bowled throughout the Marsden innings to claim six wickets.

ECB YORKSHIRE: Century-maker Jamie Pickering enjoyed a boundary feast as Castleford stormed to their first win since May 7 and inflicted a third successive defeat on hosts Driffield Town.

Pickering, who stacked up 12 fours and six sixes, figured in a fourth-wicket partnership of 114 with Scott Hopkinson, who made 74 and helped Castleford to 276-6 in their 55 overs. David Wainwright then took five wickets, Driffield falling 157 runs short.

Ryan Bradshaw played a captain’s innings of 82 not out in Harrogate’s five-wicket home victory over Barnsley, who suffered a third successive league defeat. Electing to bat, Barnsley made a modest 192-6, the highlight of their innings being 74 from captain Jason Booth, who had a sixth-wicket partnership of 87 with Henri Londt.

Spinner Dan Craven bowled 19 overs and took all six wickets to fall. Harrogate took 48.3 overs to overhaul Barnsley’s total, Bradshaw including 10 fours and two sixes in his inspirational innings. He and Vic Craven, cousin of Dan, added 84 for the third wicket, Craven falling two short of his 50.

Sheffield Collegiate beat Doncaster by 70 runs. Ed McKenna, Alex Patmore and Will Root all made half-centuries for Collegiate, who reached 296-6 in their 55 overs.

Gareth Cox and James Stuart both made 50 in reply, but Will Street’s off-spin earned him five victims and Town held on for a point through their last pair.

Rotherham Town recorded their eighth successive league win, at the expense of visitors Appleby Frodingham, who suffered their first defeat for a month. Gurman Randhawa has been more prominent as a bowler but, batting at No 7, he struck a splendid 55 not out, including five fours and a six, as Rotherham totalled 281-7.

Randhawa and Nathan Smith put on 73 for the sixth wicket and when Appleby Frodingham batted, Nick White and James Pickersgill made half-centuries, White striking seven boundaries and Pickersgill six, but the visitors were dismissed 106 runs short.

AIRE-WHARFE: Greg Lambert produced a devastating six-wicket spell to skittle leaders Thackley for 94 and open up the title race.

Mike Halmshaw (41) led the successful run chase as Follifoot got home by seven wickets to register their fifth win in six games.

The other form team are Bilton, who moved to within two points of the leaders after a decisive win over Green Lane.

Chris Peareth (71) top scored in Bilton’s 219-9 in which Istikhar Hussain picked up five wickets, and Lane were dismissed for 111 with Tom Barron (4-37) doing most of the damage.

Dean Russ (125no) hit his third century of the season as Guiseley raced to 242-4 but it was not enough as Otley recovered from 69-3 with a 149-run stand between Nick Benton (119no) and Matthew O’ Grady (70) and won by four wickets.

Shane Etherington (5-39) and Richard Brook (70) were the heroes as Burley ended Beckwithshaw’s three-match winning run with seven wickets and 33 overs to spare.

At the bottom, Toby Jacklin’s 22-over spell of 7-56 bowled out Adel for 124 and clinched Collingham’s first win since early May, which means only 10 points separate them in 11th place from fourth-placed Beckwithshaw.

A sterling effort from captain Andrew Doidge, who followed up a 25-over, 4-84 stint with a knock of 67 took bottom club Rawdon within eight runs of beating Kirkstall but the home side’s 230-6 – Joe Gibson 63 and Jos Siddall 70no – proved just too much and they had to settle for two points.

Faced with Calverley’s 290-5, in which Julian Thornhill hit 90 and Gareth Lee 87, it looked all up for Division Two bottom club Menston but Adam Campion (115no) and John Storey (114) put on 202 for the third wicket to clinch a seven-wicket win.

Leaders Steeton bowled out fourth-placed Harden for 84 to clinch a 121-run win and stay nine points clear of Ben Rhydding, who beat Tong Park Esholt by five wickets largely thanks to Jason Wright (86no) and Nick Smith (5-55).

Stuart Carey (74) and Simon Bridson (4-45) led Knaresborough to a win over Pool.
