YORKSHIRE’s hopes of qualifying for the knockout stages of the T20 Blast have been rocked by the news that a player has tested positive for coronavirus.

David Willey, Tom Kohler-Cadmore, Matthew Fisher and Josh Poysden will miss the remaining three group games after one was confirmed to have contracted Covid-19.

The club has not disclosed the player’s identity.

The issue first came to light on Monday when the four men were withdrawn from the T20 Roses match at Emerald Headingley.

The players had been in close contact on Saturday - away from the rest of the squad and a Covid-secure environment - and one of the quartet’s family members had subsequently shown signs of symptoms.

The four men must now self-isolate for 14 days, ruling them out of tonight’s match against Durham at Headingley, tomorrow’s return Roses game at Old Trafford and Sunday’s match against Derbyshire at Headingley.

However, they would be available if Yorkshire get through to the quarter-finals on October 1, which are followed by Finals Day on October 3.

Kunwar Bansil, Yorkshire’s physiotherapist, said: “Although it is disappointing that we will be without four key players, we have a duty of care to the wider squad and others.
