Khiljee in seventh heaven for Shelley

Khiljee struck seven fours and seven sixes in his entertaining knock and then took 7-71 with his medium pace. Adam France claimed five wickets in vain for Scholes.

Shepley extended their lead over second-placed Golcar to seven points with a 75-run win over Khiljee’s old club Delph & Dobcross. Greg Wood’s 92 was the highlight of Shepley’s innings and Graeme Simpson had an undefeated half-century for the losers.

Golcar suffered their first defeat of the season in a low-scoring affair at Barkisland for whom ex- Lightcliffe slow left armer Chris Greenwood bowled 22.3 tidy overs and took 6-42. Golcar were bowled out for a mere 135 despite a fine 64 from Steve Whitwam. Darren Robinson then made an unbeaten 54 and Barkisland won by four wickets after 48 overs.

Elland got back to winning ways with an eight-wicket triumph at Hall Bower. Jack Hendy took 6-28 as the home side were dismissed for 171 and solid knocks from Paul Winrow (75) and Niall Lockley (53) saw Elland safely home with ample time to spare.

There was a tight finish at Kirkburton where Holmfirth all-rounder Sarjinder Pal Singh hit 62 and took four wickets only to finish on the losing side. Chasing 176-9, Holmfirth needed eight off the last over but Kirkburton won by one run. Matt Garrety grabbed five wickets for the winners.

Honley continued their good run at Skelmanthorpe where they had 58 runs to spare but had to be content with an incomplete win as the home side’s last pair were at the wicket when the overs ran out. Ritchie Howarth had a six-wicket haul for Honley.

The battle between the bottom two saw Marsden still rooted to the foot of the table after Hoylandswaine defeated them by five wickets.

Marsden’s Muhammad Khan and Ian Bray put on 92 for the last wicket but their side’s total of 124 wasn’t enough.

Hoylandswaine opener Alex Morris made 65, including nine fours and three sixes.
