King continues to rule supreme

HUNTERS YORK SENIOR

West Indies legend Collis King hit his 20th Premier Division century and fellow Caribbean Harwood Williams his 10th in the top flight as they compiled a 222-run opening stand at Thirsk.

King's 140 was his 41st three-figure score in the York Senior League whilst Williams, with 110 not out, showed the kind of form that enabled him to score 1,108 runs in the 2009 campaign.

After King's departure, former Sessay overseas player Dave Johnson ensured that there was no respite for the home bowlers by making 40 not out to lift Dunnington's total to 308-1.

Thirsk's batsmen dug in to earn a draw at 173-5.

Clifton Alliance suffered an agonising defeat at home to Goole, who claimed the final wicket off the penultimate delivery.

A fine unbeaten 100 by Byron Parker was pivotal as Goole made 234-6.

James Postill took 3-30 for the home side and then followed with 59. Other Alliance runs were provided by Richard Musgrave (48) and Adam Slater (28) but Kev Murphy took 3-42 to aid his side's last-gasp victory.

For the Royals, Ben Crewe took 3-52 but a 120-run stand for the third wicket between Mark Wilkie (66) and Nick Harrison (71) helped Sessay to 200-5.

When the Ripon-based side replied, Rob Nicholson made 51 and former Ripon player Gary Blackburn 47. Wickets fell steadily to Stuart Peirse (3-34) and Steve Langstaff (4-38) and Studley's last wicket fell off the penultimate delivery.

Paul Clappison made 36, Rich Pooley 33 and Dan Dales 31 not out as Jack Leaning took 3-48. Heworth lost a wicket before a run was scored but this proved to be the only moment to cherish for home supporters as Lynch and Leaning knocked off the runs. Lynch was denied a century when the target was reached with his tally showing 98. Yorkshire hopeful Leaning made exactly 50.

Tadcaster fell to an eight-run defeat against Whitkirk, for whom Mark Murphy hit the game's top score in making 79.

Hull & YPI's innings in the draw against Sessay featured two century partnerships as they made 263-2. Martin Watkin hit 127 and figured in an opening stand of 138 with Nigel Redfern (62) and then added 114 with Stuart Robinson (44no).

Woodhouse Grange's Chris Suddaby hit an unbeaten 125, took 3-22, held a catch and made a run out. They declared an over short at 262-4 and Castleford lost their last wicket off the first ball of the extra over.
