Saturday league review: Baldwin and Hood keep leaders on course

Jonathan Booth (130) and Harry Clewett (64) put on 132 to put Townville on the way to 265-6 but Alex Baldwin (75) and Andrew Hood (79) made sure the leaders got home with four wickets to spare.

Hanging Heaton kept in the title race while denting the challenge of second-placed Farsley after Callum Geldart (64) helped them set a target of 248-6. Despite the efforts of Dan Hodgson (84) the visitors were dismissed for 177, Aqsad Ali picking up 4-25.

Mark Robertshaw (62no) eased Pudsey St Lawrence past East Bierley’s 101 in which Charlie Parker (5-37) and Tom Hudson (3-12) did most of the damage.

That sent Saints up to second in the table and put Bierley closer to the drop. They are now 68 points off safety after their two nearest rivals both claimed wins.

Bradford & Bingley looked set for another defeat when Nick Walker (5-45) bowled them out for 109 with Callum Goldthorpe hitting 45. But with Bailey Wightman (5-13) and Jack Hartley (3-52) restricting Cleckheaton to 78-9 before the match was abandoned, the Bees won by DLS.

The same system saw Scholes beat Lightcliffe, who are still too close to the drop zone for comfort. Rhys Jowett (55) and Matthew Baxter (52) gave Lightcliffe a good platform but with James Stansfield taking 5-59 they were restricted to 187-9. A century stand between Kasir Maroof (42) and Shoukat Ali (92) and a calculator gave Scholes the win.

Ishfaq Ahmed (97) was top-scorer in Woodlands’ 265-7 but Matthew Waite (63) and Adam Patel (46) helped Methley recover from 24-3 and tail-enders Waqas Ahmed (45no) and Sohail Raz (30no) saw them home with three balls to spare.

Sessay pulled off a spectacular win at Driffield Town to raise hopes they could escape the drop from Yorkshire North.

Town set a target of 253-3 in which Alex Drury made 86 and Nick Hardgrave hit six sixes in scoring 62 not out. Mark Wilkie (48) and Matthew Till (77) put Sessay on course and Mark Jackson (62no) and Jacob Spencer (39no) finished the job.

Sessay were helped by the fact that the two sides immediately above them, Harrogate and Clifton Alliance, were frustrated by rain.

Leaders York made sure there would be no weather problems, openers Duncan Snell (46no) and Jack Leaning (48no) taking them past Castleford’s 102-8, while second-placed Woodhouse Grange kept up the pressure, James Finch dismissing Acomb for 107 in reply to Grange’s 186-9.

Edward Barnes hit an unbeaten half-century in Yorkshire Academy’s 242-7 before taking 3-29 and teaming up with Harry Sullivan (4-4) to dismiss Scarborough for 64.

Dominic Rhodes (4-23) and Ryan McKendry (3-3) skittled Sheriff Hutton Bridge for 65 and Ryan Gibson smashed four sixes in his unbeaten 48 as Stamford Bridge won in 6.5 overs.

Matthew Jordan (58) led Wakefield Thorne to 200 on the way to a 59-run win over Cleethorpes and extended their lead in Yorkshire South.

Nearest challengers Sheffield Collegiate went down to a two-wicket defeat by Doncaster Town, Ali Waqas securing the win with a patient unbeaten 60.

Beck Fostick (59) led the way as Barnsley set a target of 260-9 in which Isaac Spencer-Jones took 5-54. Opener Dave Rogers made 92 but Wickersley came up six runs short.

Alex Hughes (52) and Craig Moffat (4-32) helped Hallam to a comfortable win over Appleby Frodingham, while Stephen Foster (66), Shahjahan Younis (48) and Mohammad Waheed (54) led Treeton to victory against Whitley Hall.

Opener Matthew Cartwright (75) top scored in Aston Hall’s 242-6 before Adam Clarke (7-37) dismissed Whiston for 126. Andrew Tomlinson followed up a four-wicket haul with 41.

Only one match was completed in Aire Wharfe Division One, Ben Morley (83no) and Alex Atkinson (64no) steering leaders Otley past Adel’s 163 to extend their advantage to 27 points.

Rawdon’s Andrew Duckworth made an unbeaten 110 against Beckwithshaw and Taran Chana’s 126 put North Leeds in the driving seat at Burley.
