Meadows century is so crucial for Elsecar

Premier Division champons Treeton met with their first setback of the season when travelling to take on Elsecar at Armroyd Lane, the hosts following Treeton’s 212 with 216-5, opener Jason Meadows cracking 101, including 20 boundaries.

Other opener Daniel Rafiq added 47, the Elsecar bowlers Glenn Yates and Shahzad Rana each claiming three wickets, while Steve Foster didn’t deserve to be on the losing side after his fine 83, which contained 12 boundaries, following his stint of 5-46, Treeton’s next best being Scott Cunningham, 50.

Hallam reached 275-3, highest Premier score of the day, thanks to Nick Dymock, 98, and junior Harry Bliss, 73, with Mark Williams carrying his bat for 47, hosts Houghton Main then dismised for 100, James Chetwood grabbing 5-51.

Norton Oakes were given a good start by opener Andy Firth, 72, closing on 208-9, but visitors Coal Aston went on to a six-wicket victory, opener Dave Rodgers slamming a brilliant 119, Liam Johnson adding 33no, this after his great spell of 6-48, all of which were clean-bowled.

Wath weren’t optimistic after being rushed out for 114 at home to Upper Haugh, Samit Puri doing most of the damage with a 5-22 effort, but they then skittled the guests for just 45, Mark Barlow recording 5-14 and Rob Barlow 3-7.

Whitley Hall, Yorkshire Council champions and Black Sheep Champions of Champions winners last season, weren’t at their brilliant best at home to Wickersley, falling for 180-7, Chris Siddall following his opening day century with a knock of 52, Jaco Castle adding 40, but it proved good enough for the points, Wickersley back in the pavilion for 124, Jordan Lowe 45, Castle bagging 4-41.

Whiston took a maximum points haul from the visit of Aston Hall with Andy Tomlinson striking an opening 71 in the tally of 245.

Rob Ward picked up 4-41 for the guests, seen off for 173, in which Amir Riaz belted 13 boundaries in his classy 72.
