Michael Vaughan urges Geoffrey Boycott to '˜back down' in Yorkshire CCC board row

Former White Rose captain and president Boycott wants to stand for election at the club’s annual general meeting on March 26 but has seen his efforts rebuffed by chairman Steve Denison.

Denison said, in writing to members, that it would be “counter-productive to disrupt things now” although Boycott insists he does not want to interfere in playing matters.

The 75-year-old adds that his only motivation in seeking a return to the club would be to prevent Yorkshire running into financial difficulty, with the county champions retaining significant existing debts, despite an annual profit of £368,000 and an increased income of £8.4m.

With the stand-off set to rumble on, another former Yorkshire player in Vaughan has waded into the debate.

And the Ashes 2005-winning captain has urged his fellow BBC TMS contributor Boycott to concede defeat for the sake of the club.

Asked what he would do regarding the club’s financial situation, he added: “Let the experts on Finance deal with it ... Not Cricket experts ..”
