Milestone for India star Tendulkar as he sets sights on 100th century

Sachin Tendulkar could record a second unprecedented milestone in as many days when India push for victory in the first Test against West Indies today.

Tendulkar became the first batsman to reach 15,000 Test runs and was on course to reach his 100th international century after reaching the close unbeaten on 33 yesterday.

Tendulkar has been on the brink of the anticipated milestone since March when he last reached triple figures against South Africa at the World Cup.

India require a further 124 runs with eight wickets meaning Tendulkar could enjoy a double celebration.

Tendulkar brought up his remarkable milestone, in his 182nd Test, late on the third day when he pushed leg-spinner Devendra Bishoo for a single.

After completing the run, Tendulkar turned to the heavens to celebrate before being joined by his partner and Test cricket’s second-highest run scorer, Rahul Dravid.

Tendulkar has scored 51 Test centuries, and 48 in the 50-over format, but none would be more celebrated than his next.

India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni said: “We will let him get the century and then we will speak about it. It’s a milestone Sachin will achieve, whether in this game, the next game or some other game. It’s bound to happen.”
