Moxon proving chip off old block for York

JONNY MOXON, son of Yorkshire’s director of cricket Martyn Moxon, helped champions York to a seven-wicket win despite a fine century from Doncaster Town opening batsman Simon Widdup at Clifton Park.

Widdup and James Stuart had a third-wicket partnership of 147 in their side’s 221-8, Widdup striking 11 fours and two sixes in his 101 and Stuart including seven fours and two sixes in accumulating 71. Moxon’s medium-quick deliveries brought him 4-34.

Jack Leaning and Duncan Snell built an opening stand of 83 for York and McKendry brothers Liam and Ryan added an unbroken 74.

Harrogate, like York, maintained their undefeated run, overcoming visitors Cleethorpes by eight wickets. Opener Bill Kirby continued his fine form for Cleethorpes with nine boundaries in his 82, but Graeme Whiles tied down the batsmen with 3-28 from 14 overs.

Chasing 180-9, Australian Calum How and Alexis Twigg had an opening partnership of 119 for Harrogate.

Yorkshire Academy lost their unbeaten record at home to Driffield Town, who won by 75 runs.

Sam Drury flayed 15 fours and three sixes in compiling 104, cousin George contributing an undefeated 56 and Ben Kholer-Cadman also made a half-century.

The Academy never threatened to overhaul Driffield’s 276-7 despite an unbeaten 78 from Josh Shaw.

There was a tie at Scarborough where Appleby Frodingham, chasing 234-8, drew level in the 49th over but then lost their last wicket. Andy Simpson starred, making 72 and taking 5-65 for Scarborough.

Castledford overcame Rotherham by 33 runs, despite a fine 82 from Archie Ogden containing 16 boundaries.

Sheffield United captain Paul Cummins hit an unbeaten 75 in Sheffield United’s three-wicket win at Hull and Sheffield Collegiate captain Matt Dixon spun his way to three wickets for five runs in 4.2 overs in a 106 runs victory at Barnsley.

Simon Guy made an unbeaten 80 and shared a century stand with Nick Gaywood for Collegiate.
