Promotion is sealed to delight of Broad Oak

The washout left Lee Baxter’s men on 83 points and although second-placed Moorlands can equal that tally if they achieve a six-point win at Almondbury Wesleyans on the season’s final day and Oak lose at third-placed Marsden, the leaders would still finish top as they currently have two more outright wins.

Oak narrowly missed out on promotion last season but apart from slipping up at Almondbury Wesleyans at the end of last month, they have long been in commanding form, with overseas batsman and spinner Jarryd Vernon outstanding.

Moorlands are favourites to join Oak in the top flight as they hold a five-point lead over Marsden, although Marsden boast two more outright wins.

Moorlands were Conference champions last season when newcomers to the league and have maintained their strong progress with bowler Chris Lloyd regularly among the wickets and Andrew Fortis and Louis Aspeling shining with the bat.

Kirkheaton are already promoted from the Conference as champions but five teams go into the final round of matches with hopes of capturing the second spot – Cumberworth United (67 points), Almondbury (67), Thurstonland (66), Denby (66) and Denby Dale (64).

Cumberworth visit Cartworth Moor, Almondbury go to bottom club Paddock, Thurstonland are also away to Birkby Rose Hill and Denby Dale host Denby.

The only match to start in the Premiership on Saturday was at Holmfirth where Meltham lost one wicket for no runs before the rains came.
