Pyrah will offset the loss of McGrath

YORKSHIRE have confirmed they will not be recruiting another coach to replace Anthony McGrath.

McGrath has left the club to take on the assistant head coach’s role at Essex, where he is No 2 to his former Yorkshire team-mate Chris Silverwood.

McGrath’s departure is effectively offset by the appointment last autumn of Rich Pyrah, who joined the Headingley coaching staff after retiring as a player.

Pyrah will embrace a range of responsibilities, including that of coach of the new Yorkshire Diamonds women’s Super League team.

“Losing Anthony is a blow because he was fantastic for us,” said Yorkshire first-team coach Jason Gillespie.

“We really enjoyed working with him, but the opportunity to be one of the main men at a club doesn’t come along every day, so we wish him well.

“Richie coaches the Diamonds, but will also coach throughout the club.

“He’ll be with the first team for one-day and T20 cricket, as well as with the second team, the Academy and the age groups.

“He’s going to be busy, and he’ll get some great experience.

“Richie has the potential to be a fantastic coach.”
