Record run for Yorkshire against Derbys

YORKSHIRE achieved the joint fourth-highest total in their 150-year history and then ripped out three Derbyshire wickets before lunch to keep themselves on course for victory at Headingley.

The home side added 80 runs in the first 10 overs of the final morning before declaring on 677-7, equalling their highest score at Headingley in the game when Darren Lehmann scored 339 against Durham in 2006.

And with a lead of 202 and a minimum of 84 overs to try to force victory, Yorkshire dismissed opening batsmen Billy Godleman and Chesney Hughes, followed by the key wicket of West Indian Shivnarine Chanderpaul, in the hour before lunch as the visitors fell to 47-3.

Yorkshire resumed on 597-5 and lost Gary Ballance in the third over of the day when he slapped Jonathan Clare to Wayne Madsen at backward point.

Ballance added three runs to his overnight 50 and his departure was followed by that of Tim Bresnan, who miscued Tim Groenewald to Clare at long-on.

Adil Rashid hit a run-a-ball 36 and Liam Plunkett a quickfire 21 before the declaration came after 50 minutes’ play.

Derbyshire were soon in trouble when Godleman shouldered arms to Bresnan and was lbw for nine in the third over.
