Records tumble as duo pile on the runs

Gomersal then replied with 322-9 with Adam Greenwood (102) and Greg Pickles (101) taking the number of centuries in the match to four, equalling the league record set in 1938.

The tally of 700 runs demolished the previous highest match aggregate of 628 set by Pudsey St Lawrence and Yeadon in 2003.

Just five days after leading his side to victory in the Priestley Cup final, James Smith handed over the captaincy to his successor Mark Robertshaw and celebrated with an unbeaten century as his side beat neighbours Pudsey Congs by five wickets.

St Lawrence appeared in trouble at 49-4 in reply to Pudsey Congs’ score of 226-8 but Smith and Gareth Clough (56) revived their side with a fifth-wicket stand of 158.

Joe Greaves struck a sparkling 140 and opener Steve Simpson hit 57 as Farsley made 312-6 in their 13-run win over Cleckheaton.

John Wood (91) and Mark Cummins (67) shared an opening stand of 154 as Cleckheaton were bowled out for 299.

Woodlands celebrated receiving the championship trophy before the game by defeating Undercliffe by five wickets. Scott Richardson (61) and Tim Orrell (51no) helped their side to overhaul Undercliffe’s total of 197-9.

Bradford & Bingley beat East Bierley by 79 runs. Scott Etherington making a fine 107 as his side made 253-6 and took 6-45 as East Bierley were bowled out for 174.

Relegated Baildon beat Manningham Mills by four wickets with three balls to spare. Richard Atkins (45) and Simon Webb (44) steered them past the Manningham Mills score of 199. Imran Khalid (62) and Farakh Hussain (54) hit half-centuries for Mills.
