Records tumble as Seddon seals victory

Sixteen-year-old Jack Seddon thrashed an unbeaten 51 from 19 balls as Gomersal chased down a Pudsey St Lawrence score of 342-6 to score a three-wicket win.

Seddon smashed six sixes as he and Ben Platt (53no) plundered 89 in just 5.2 overs in an unbroken eight-wicket partnership in a match which produced 686 runs – the highest aggregate for a Bradford League game, beating the previous best of 628 set by Yeadon and Pudsey St Lawrence in 2003.

The match also produced centuries for St Lawrence’s Mark Robertshaw (109) and Gomersal’s teenage opener Andy Gorrod (100), and three more half centuries for St Lawrence’s Adam Waite (86) and James Smith (58) plus Gomersal’s Greg Pickles (75).

Batsmen didn’t have things all their own way everywhere. Bradford & Bingley’s James Davies produced the season’s best bowling figures of 8-64 as the leaders defeated Baildon by 94 runs

The margin of defeat would have been even greater but for a last-wicket stand of 88 between Craig Hitchenor and James Midgley.

The bowlers were on top in the matches at Cleckheaton and Manningham Mills. Opening bowlers James Lee and Iain Wardlaw each took 5-28 as Cleckheaton skittled Hanging Heaton for 56 to record a six-wicket win.

Spinner Chris Brice (5-19) impressed as Woodlands dismissed Manningham Mills for 78 as they recoded a fifth-straight win by eight wickets to move up to third.

Lorenzo Ingram made 76 to take his season’s aggregate to 645 as Farsley made 190-9, and then took 5-52 with his left-arm spin but ended up on the losing side as Undercliffe held their nerve to win by one wicket.

Matthew Bottomley (55) and Luke Holroyd (44no) helped them to their target.

Pudsey Congs needed the experience of Babar Butt (53no) and the calmness of Edward Walmsley (34no) to edge them home against East Bierley. Gareth Phillips (52) was the other key contributor for Congs as they overhauled an East Bierley score of 164-9.

Alex Stead (112no) and Chris Taylor (104no) helped Division Two leaders Lightcliffe to a 95-run win over Spen Victoria.
