Rinke signs off in style with century

SCARBOROUGH captain Piet Rinke hit an unbeaten century in his final game before returning to Zimbabwe but it was all in vain as rain cut short a high-scoring tussle at Rotherham.

Gerhard Rudolph included 13 fours and six sixes in his 127 for Rotherham and he joined Stuart Gray in a second-wicket stand of 165. Gray made 69 and Rotherham, who were already assured of the runners-up laurels, made 346-9.

There was an entertaining 43 not out from No 10 Will Cooper, who plundered 30 off the last over – bowled by the unfortunate Simon Tennant – with three sixes and three fours.

Rinke, who has completed four seasons at Scarborough, replied with an undefeated 103 and there were half-centuries from Tennant and Andy Simpson, Tennant taking his revenge in a century partnership with Rinke. However, with Scarborough on 292-4 after 43.2 overs, rain caused a premature end.

Champions York had to work hard for victory by just five runs in the last scheduled over at Cleethorpes. Replying to 253, Cleethorpes rose to the challenge with Charlie Tomlinson making 83 off 64 balls, including seven fours and five sixes, and putting on 129 for the second-wicket with Rory Osmond, who hit 59, but the seasiders fell just short.

Yorkshire Academy followed their Cup final victory over Scarborough with a six-wicket win against Barnsley at Weetwood, No 3 Jack Leaning striking an unbeaten 71, containing five fours and two sixes. George Ross contributed to the success by taking 3-41 in 11 overs.

Wooden spoonists Doncaster lost by 60 runs at Driffield, for whom middle-order batsman Danny Broumpton made an undefeated 68, including seven fours and two sixes.
