Rinke swings in to destroy Barnsley

PIET Rinke, Scarborough’s captain and swing bowler, tormented Barnsley with a season’s best 8-20 haul in 10 overs as his side won by 110 runs at Shaw Lane.

Scarborough were restricted to 163-9 in their 55 overs by spinners Richard Wilkinson and Indian Kumal Razdan on his debut, both men taking four wickets. Opener Darren Harland led the way with 60 and No 8 Theo Smith made an unbeaten 25.

Rinke then took charge as Barnsley were shot out for 53 in 19.2 overs. Simon Widdup moved down the batting order to No 6 and made more than half the home side’s runs with 31 off 30 balls.

Appleby Frodingham suffered at Harrogate where they were hustled out for 88 in 37.5 overs and lost by 100 runs as Harrogate avenged a nine-wicket defeat in May. The home side were bowled out for 188 in 46 overs but the total proved more than sufficient when Vic Craven and Ben Biker got to work on the visitors’ batsmen.

Craven finished with 4-23 off his 16 overs, Biker taking 3-23 in 10. Teenager Kieran Watson was Appleby Frodingham’s best batsman with an undefeated 18.

Sheffield Collegiate amassed 315-5 in 55 overs against visitors Driffield, who lost by 135 runs. Brothers Joe and Billy Root had a third-wicket partnership of 105 for Collegiate, Yorkshire’s Joe including 14 fours in his 105 and Billy striking six fours and three sixes in an undefeated 87. Alex Patmore’s 68 contained 10 fours.

When Driffield batted, Ben Kohler-Cadmore enjoyed a half-century and Sanjaya Rodrigo made 48 but off-spinners Will Street and Joe Root took five wickets and four, respectively, as Driffield succumbed for 180 in 41.1 overs.

York declared at 190-3 after losing four hours to the rain. Half-century makers Liam McKendry and Duncan Snell had an opening partnership of 120 in 15 overs and Oliver Hairs made 32, putting on 51 for the second wicket with McKendry in five overs.

Sheffield United were looking good at 87-1 but they lost four wickets for three runs and finished on 99-5 in 34 overs, Dan Woods taking 3-37 in 14 overs, both sides taking three points.

Cranmer blast back to overhaul Scholes

AUSTRALIAN all-rounder Michael Cranmer completed his first century of the season for Hoylandswaine, who defeated visitors Scholes by seven wickets with nine overs to spare on a day when many matches had their overs reduced by rain.

Scholes totalled 217-9 in 40 overs, Iqbal Khan and Jarrod Lee making half-centuries. Cranmer’s three wickets cost 75 runs, but he then struck an unbeaten 112 and figured in a third-wicket partnership of 147 with opener John Sadler, who made 58.

Louis Aspeling also boasted an undefeated century in Skelmanthorpe’s seven-wicket victory at Marsden. The home side totalled 163-8, thanks to No 9 Danny Clee who struck seven sixes and four fours in his 72 not out. Peter Lombard’s 16 overs contained four maidens and he finished with 4-22. Skelmanthorpe won with 12 overs to spare, Aspeling’s century containing 19 fours.

Leaders Delph & Dobcross trounced hosts Slaithwaite by eight wickets after bowling them out for 69 in 21 overs. Pace bowlers Bilal Khiljee (6-22) and Adnan Ghaus (4-45) shared the wickets and Delph reached their target in 9.4 overs.

Shepley suffered a nine-wicket drubbing 24 hours before they were due to play the Sykes Cup final against Skelmanthorpe. Visitors Kirkburton dismissed Shepley for 115, Charlie Roebuck and Oliver Davidson taking three wickets each. Former Yorkshire batsman Matthew Wood hit an unbeaten 61 in the successful reply.

Barkisland recovered from 36-9 to 68 all out and lost by eight wickets at home to Golcar, with Rhodes (6-38) and Will Hinchliffe (3-28) doing the damage. Golcar lost their first two wickets for 12 but Craig Ruscoe and James Sykes then saw them safely home.

Spinner Tom Craddock bowled 17 overs and took five wickets for Honley who won by seven wickets at Shelley. Michael Fraine and Peter Drysdale made half-centuries for Honley and Shelley, respectively.

Broad Oak avenged a heavy early season defeat by overcoming Elland by four wickets at Hullen Edge in a game reduced to 30 overs-a-side.

Weir ends two-year wait for Adel victory

On a day of shocks, none of the top four managed a win while Collingham and Adel picked up big scalps in their battle to avoid relegation.

Probably the happiest dressing room was in Division Three where an undefeated 109 from Geoff Weir was the highlight as Adel beat Hall Park by 125 runs, their first league win in two years.

League leaders Thackley were expected to make short work of Adel who had won only one of their previous 11 matches but struggled against Mark Shires (7-73) with Nasser Jamal (59) top scoring.

Mahir Ali (6-40) tried to rescue the situation but second from bottom Adel managed to overhaul them with two wickets to spare.

Ollie Hardaker hit an unbeaten century and with Sam Anderson (66) and Brian Leigh (45) weighing in, Collingham set a target of 281-5 and despite the efforts of Paul Canning (77) and Darren Simpson (50), third-placed Bilton were dismissed for 239.

That win took Collingham out of the bottom three, going above Green Lane, who crashed to defeat against bottom club Rawdon after Justin Jaensch picked up 5-34 as they were dismissed for 143, chasing the visitors’ 173-6 in which Simon Kellett hit 70.

Kevin Bennett had a fine day for second-placed Kirkstall at Burley, following up a knock of 114 not out with 4-68 and being involved in two run-outs but his side still had to settle for four points.

Otley moved up to third after a four off the last ball earned them a tie at Beckwithshaw. Mike Stanford (52), Ben Quick (72no) and Alex Lilley (53no) saw the home side race to 223-3 but, with Jonathan Hughes hitting 11 fours and three sixes in his 94, Otley kept alive their title hopes.

Guiseley’s revival continued, their nine-wicket win at Follifoot, in which Dean Russ (68no) and Dave Pennett (4-23) starred, taking them to within 12 points of Thackley.

Division Two’s top encounter between Steeton and Ben Rhydding ended in a point each because of rain even though Mark Taylor (98no), for the home side, and Charlie Swallow (60no), for the visitors, put on a good display.
