ROUND-UP: Treeton thwart Whitley's triple bid

Yorkshire Council Championship: Whitley Hall's bid for a fantastic cricketing treble failed at the last hurdle yesterday, the Ben Bailey South Yorkshire League Premier Division champions and Whitworth Cup holders losing out to colleagues and great rivals Treeton in an all-South Yorkshire clash in the Yorkshire Council Championship final at the Hull YPI ground.

Treeton, who lost to Whitley in their only League meeting this season, and have been pipped for the Premier Division title by the Ecclesfield club, took revenge in the ultimate stage of the Council play-offs, when making 220-6, with Steve Foster blasting 101no.

Whitley's last wicket fell at 205, Neil Longhurst hitting 70, with Andy Tomlinson claiming 3-57, and all-rounder Foster picking up the Man of the Match tag for his unbeaten century and his spell of 2-21.

Black Sheep Champions Trophy: Holders York suffered a shock defeat by 42 runs as Drakes Huddersfield Premiership side Scholes carried off the trophy at Treeton yesterday.

York, who had completed their Yorkshire ECB season undefeated, were bowled out for 157 in 42.1 overs after Scholes made 199 in the 48 overs-a-side final.

Man-of-the-match Mohammed Shah Nawaz, batting at No 10 for Scholes, made a vital 59 and figured in a ninth wicket partnership of 56 with Andy Alsop.

Shah Nawaz then took 4-25 and Alsop 3-25 to leave York's batsmen licking their wounds.
