Or is it one of his fellow gold medallists – triathlon legend Alistair Brownlee or heptathlon sensation Jessica Ennis, historic boxer Nicola Adams or dominant cyclist Ed Clancy?

There were so many Olympic heroes from the White Rose it is hard to keep up with them all.

Or do the achievements of Kevin Sinfield in leading Leeds Rhinos to world and domestic titles mark him out as your sports star of the year?

What about Jonny Bairstow, for his exploits with England, or Joe Root for firing Yorkshire to promotion and Twenty20 finals day and then muscling in on the international set-up?

Was Gary Mills’s accomplishment in steering York City back into the Football League, and to a Wembley FA Trophy triumph as well, better than all of the above?

Or does Hannah Cockroft deserve the accolade for her heroics in the Paralympics?

What about Tom Sykes, Huddersfield’s World Superbikes star, or the exploits of horse racing’s Harry Haynes, who recorded his first Cheltenham Festival victory, or Richard Fahey, for landing his first Group One in Britain?
