Showdown with Academy looms as Harrogate eye the title

The home side made a solid start but then David Foster produced a devastating 6-36 spell to reduce them to 131.

Harrogate lost their first two wickets cheaply but captain George Ross smacked nine fours and five sixes in an unbeaten 84 to see his side to an eight-wicket win that puts them 17 points clear with four games to go.

The first of those is against Yorkshire Academy, who moved level on points with York with victory over Scarborough, who were bowled out for 122, James Logan taking 5-32. Harry Brook (53no) and Ben Ainsley (56no) made short work of the reply.

A stand of 130 between Liam Hyde (100no) and Mohammad Waqas (72) helped struggling Castleford to 233-6 and on their way to a 37-run win at Stamford Bridge.

With openers Andrew Simpson (78) and Peter Shally (63) laying the foundations, Hull reached 254-6 but Sam Anthony (112) and Adam Fisher (53) led the charge to give Sheriff Hutton Bridge victory.

Dunnington raced to 273-9 on the back of a 190-run stand between Tom Loten (73) and Steve Liburd (118) but half-centuries from Matthew Dale, Jonny Rawsthorne and Tom Neal steered Acomb to a four-wicket win.

Ben Kholer-Cadmore’s 64 was the highlight of Driffield’s 208-8 in which Josh Jackson took 5-52. Woodhouse Grange’s reply never got going, finishing on 178-7.

Yasir Ali put Scholes on the way to only their fourth win of the season and raised faint hopes they might avoid the drop from the Bradford Premier.

Ali took 6-61 as Cleckheaton were restricted to 180-9 in which Ian Nicholson scored 71 not out. Scholes tottered to 66-4 but Rizwan Ahmed (71no) turned things round and his stands with Ali (35) and Joe Duffy (27no) saw them home.

Leaders Hanging Heaton made short work of East Bierley, David Stiff (5-19) and Muhammed Rameez (4-24) skittling them for 80 before Gary Fellows (54no) clinched the 10-wicket win.

A six-wicket win by Pudsey St Lawrence in the derby against Pudsey Congs earned the Saints more bonus points and cut the gap to just five points.

Joe Greaves hit 104 in Congs’ 257-6 but Adam Waite (72), Barrie Frankland (70) and James Smith (58no) clinched the win.

Chris Brice (6-28) and Kez Ahmed (3-31) bowled out Morley for 98 and even though Matthew Dowse (6-38) and Nathan Bromby (3-36) had Woodlands struggling at 59-9, Ahmed (13no) and Elliot Richardson (28no) scraped home.

Jonathan Whiteoak took 7-62 as New Farnley were dismissed for 130 a total Alex Stead (57no) and Suleman Khan (30no) passed with eight wickets to spare.

Treeton boosted their chances of avoiding the drop from Yorkshire South Premier with a four-wicket win over Rotherham.

Muhammad Attari (4-35) and Stephen Foster (3-26) restricted Rotherham to 163-9 which included 57 from Rabnawaz Khan. Treeton struggled to 49-4 but Foster (46) and Archie Ogden (49no) led them home.

There are now only 10 points separating 11th-placed Treeton from Aston Hall in seventh, with nearest rivals Doncaster only two points ahead after a 49-run defeat at Appleby Frodingham.

Akila Isanka (5-34) and Steve Morgan (4-39) bowled out Barnsley for 131 setting up a five-wicket win for Wakefield Thornes who stay 32 points clear.

Tom Knight (117no) and Dave Rodgers (83) led the way in Wickersley’s 316-5 and even though Will Root (57) and Luke Shutt (47) battled well, Sheffield Collegiate fell for 258.

A 146-run stand between Chris Siddall (76) and James Moorhouse (80) was the highlight of Whitley Hall’s victory over Sheffield & Phoenix.

A brilliant century off 91 balls from Shreevats Goswami saw Huddersfield Premiership leaders Delph pass Cawthorne’s 227-7 with just two wickets and five balls to spare.

They received another boost when struggling Honley beat second-placed Hoylandswaine with Andrew Padbury hitting 47no and taking 4-45.

Jason Wright (52no & 4-63) starred as Burley beat Aire Wharfe leaders Otley by five wickets, allowing Beckwithshaw to take a two-point lead at the top after they beat Bilton by 132 runs.
