Six-year Premier wait is over for Townville

TOWNVILLE are Premier Division champions for the first time since 2007.

With two matches left, they have an unassailable 18-point lead over closest rivals Methley after beating Carlton by six wickets.

Jack Hughes (57no) and Kyllin Vardhan (37) steered Townville to victory after Vardhan (3-6), Connor Harvey (2-0), Hughes (2-24) and captain Nick Bresnan (2-34) toppled Carlton for 131.

Chris Holliday hammered an unbeaten 131 off 116 balls and shared a 128-run stand with Marcus Walmsley (81) as Methley reached 284-8 against last year’s champions Wrenthorpe whose reply fell 14 runs short, despite an 82-run partnership between Greig Batty (74) and Joe Ellis (53).

Two matches involving the bottom four teams both produced nail-biting finishes, with Altofts and Northowram Fields tieing and Batley beating Ossett by one run.

Rashid Yousaf (60) and James Logan (49) put on 103 to lead Altofts to 124-1 against Northowram before Zafar Khan (4-45) and Jason Smith (4-36) sent them collapsing to 182 all out.

Northowram’s reply finished on 182-8 after they failed to score off the final over, bowled by Daniel Eden.

Imran Mayat smashed 130 off 88 balls as Batley posted 264 against Ossett.

In reply, Ossett needed six runs for victory off the last over but managed only four and closed on 263-9. Their defeat was tough on Shoaib Latif who hit 116.

An unbroken century stand between David Toft (76no) and Matthew Jordan (35no) guided Wakefield Thornes to a nine-wicket win at Mirfield Parish Cavaliers.

James Keen hit an unbeaten 59 as Birstall recovered from 41-6 to reach 144 against Hunslet Nelson, who knocked off the runs in 26.4 overs with a 127-run stand between Michael Lloyd (76) and Tommy Roy (60no).

Division One leaders Hopton Mills clinched promotion to the top-flight when they beat Oulton and third-placed Wakefield St Michael’s lost by three wickets at Wakefield Thornes.
