Slater and Hughes increase Clifton lead

League leaders Clifton Alliance increased their lead at the top after they beat Acomb and second-placed Sessay were soundly beaten by Easingwold.

Home side Acomb, batting first, scored 191-6 thanks mainly to captain Andy Tute (57) Neil Grant (40) and Andy Green (30). For the visitors Rich Carroll took 3-27 before team-mates Andy Slater (71) and Joel Hughes (65) contributed to Clifton's six-wicket win.

Mark Wilkie was unbeaten one run short of a century in Sessay's 206-4 at home to Easingwold before the visitors eased to a

10- wicket win with Stephen Piercy hitting 113 not out and John Marwood unbeaten on 75.

At the bottom of the division Beverley's visit to Marfleet was rewarded with a four-wicket win over bottom-club Fenner who, batting first, had posted 206-4. In reply Jonathan Fisher hit three sixes and 17 fours in his unbeaten 127.

Champions Woodhouse Grange beat Goole with four balls to spare as they chased down the visitors' 218-7 to win by six wickets thanks mainly to Nick Hadfield's 83 and an unbeaten 66 from Mike Burdett. That came after 17-year-old Ben Earle had earlier scored his maiden Premier Division century with an unbeaten 117. Woodhouse captain Steve Burdett weighed in with 4-66.

In Division One, leaders Hull Zingari and visitors Hornsea played out a tied match after the seasiders' returning Richard Medforth had produced another scrooge-like bowling display to take 7-30 off 22 overs as Zingari were all out for 140. Richard Pooley's unbeaten 64 was not enough as he watched wickets fall at regular intervals including the last one off the last ball. For Zingari, wicketkeeper Nick Biggs (48) made a rare contribution.

Second-placed Pickering were well beaten by Driffield, for whom Chris Chapman scored 70. Batting first Driffield posted 202-9 after Tony Evans had taken 4-44. The home side fell well short at 102 all out despite Colin Frank's 38. Jamie Nesfield took 6-35.

Third-placed Heworth also came unstuck when they suffered an eight-wicket defeat at the hands of Bridlington, for whom Ian Winterbottom was outstanding with 9-41 in Heworth's 136 all out. Casey Rudd (33), Steve Garton (26) contributed before Steve Cooper saw the former East Yorkshire Cup side home with an unbeaten 42.

There were defeats for both bottom clubs with York beating Folkton & Flixton, and third- bottom Clifton Alliance beating bottom-placed Ripon.

In Division Two, New Earswick chalked up a massive 404-4 at Tadcaster, with Andy James hitting a fine 105.

There was a further centurion in Beverley's Tim Smith, as he also scored 105 against Carlton Towers at Norwood. Mark Holmes top-scored for Carlton as they notched up 173 all out, John Lewis weighing in with

4-53 before the home side enjoyed a10-wicket win.

Visitors Sewerby posted 160 at Whitkirk, Mike Artley top-scoring with 44. Ben Danby took 6-55, and Paul Johnson (3-23). Whitkirk could only muster 62 runs in response after former Driffield men Ben Dobson (4-32), Russ Robinson (3-22), and Nick Johnson (3-5) prospered.

Pocklington took maximum points at home to Osbaldwick. Ian Camwell top-scored with 60 in his sides 190 all out. Despite Richard Carew being not out on 51, the York based team fell 56 runs short.
