Somerset v Yorkshire - Three to watch at Taunton

Somerset have had an indifferent start to the campaign with a succession of draws also proving to be their undoing as they sit near the foot of the table, although it is still early days.

The amount of draws which both sides have been a part of is a running trend across this year’s County Championship, leading to many questions over the rule changes which were introduced this season regarding the toss with many groundsman seemingly producing flat decks across the country.

Here we pick three Somerset players to watch out for over the next four days ...

Chris Rogers

Signed as Somerset’s overseas pro for the 2016 season, the former Australian opener is a prolific run scorer having amassed 24,460 at an average of 49.81, including an impressive 73 hundreds at first-class level. Having already got two half centuries this season and with a proven record in English conditions at both first class and international level it will be key for Jason Gillespie’s men to dismiss the left-hander cheaply if they want to win at Taunton.

James Hildreth

A batsman who surprisingly is never mentioned in England circles, but with a career first-class average of 43.26 with a high score of 303 not out and 31 centuries to his name he will be an important player for Somerset. This season with one century an average above 50 he looks set for another fine season with the bat. A key player to his side’s Championship ambitions.

Lewis Gregory

The 23-year-old who made his county championship début in 2011 has yet to really stamp his authority on the English first class game though he did take 38 wickets last season in Division One. However this season he has started with a bang with both bat and ball. Already taking ten plus wickets despite not featuring in all his side’s matches. He also averages over fifty with the bat this campaign.
