Spinners strike back for leaders Undercliffe

The top three teams gained maximum points in the battle for the Division One title.

Undercliffe, who defeated Cleckheaton by 24 runs, remain one point ahead of Pudsey Congs, who beat Saltaire by 177 runs, and four ahead of Pudsey SL, 89-run winners at Yeadon.

A 20-point maximum looked remote when Undercliffe were reduced to 14-4 by former Durham and Lancashire paceman John Wood, but they recovered to make 233 thanks to Shafiq Choudhry (87), Nawaz Sardar (62) and Farakh Hussain (31). Wood finished with 4-41.

Cleckheaton were dismissed for 209 as their innings faltered after Ian Nicholson made 50 and Marcus Walmsley 41. Spinners Chris Greenwood (4-44), Ashley Metcalfe (3-49) and Choudhry (3-38) shared the wickets.

Adam Patel hit an unbeaten 110 as Congs made 279-6 before dismissing Saltaire for 102.

Pudsey St Lawrence captain James Smith smashed an unbeaten 153 at Yeadon with seven sixes and 15 fours. Smith and Gareth Clough (55no) helped St Lawrence to reach 277-2. Yeadon, despite 54 from Sri Lankan Tharanga De Silva were bowled out for 188 with Alex Stead taking 4-31.

After being on the receiving end of three scores of over 300, Gomersal got in on the act with 320-2 as they beat Bankfoot by 28 runs.

Richard Gould made 117 and featured in an opening stand of 141 with Andy Gorrod (55). Greg Pickles (86no) and captain Richard Whitehurst, who made 46 off 15 balls, joined in the spree. Bankfoot made 292-7 with Greg Fotheringham making 125.

Bradford & Bingley scored a 60-run win over Woodlands to move into fourth spot, Chris Thompson hitting 68 in their 196-9 before David Clow (3-24), Richard McCarthy (3-31) and Matthew Cockshott (3-42) dismissed Woodlands for 136

Andy Walker (5-52) and Kiwi Shane Gadsdon (96) starred in Baildon's six-wicket win at Farsley.

Hartshead Moor's Jonathan Gould hit a career-best 143 as the Division Two promotion chasers beat Idle by 115 runs.

Haroon Rashid made 106 as leaders Hanging Heaton defeated Bowling Old Lane by two wickets, and there was a fifth century of the season for former Yorkshire batsman Chris Taylor as Lightcliffe defeated Brighouse by 71 runs.
