Stabler swings in to set up Academy win

The Darlington-born left-arm swing bowler had a season’s personal best of 6-10 in 6.2 overs as the visitors were removed for 65 in 21.2 overs. Andrew Bourke and Jamie Pickering, who had a second-wicket stand of 45, were the only Castleford batsmen to score more than two runs and six men were dismissedfor ducks.

Jonathon Tattersall struck 35 for the Academy, who reached their target in the 18th over in their first league match to be completed since June 9.

All-rounder Vic Craven ensured there was also an early finish at Harrogate where his team defeated Doncaster by eight wickets. The visitors were dismissed for 85 in 36.4 overs, Craven taking 6-25 in 12.4 overs. He removed the first four and last two batsmen and six Doncaster players were given out leg before. Craven went on to score an undefeated 50 and league leaders Harrogate won off the first ball of the 20th over.

Barnsley defeated big rivals Rotherham by 28 runs at Shaw Lane where the home side totalled 185-6 in 55 overs, captain Richard Wilkinson batting at No 6 and top-scoring with 40. Town were bowled out for 157 in 49.4 overs, with Guyanan Ryan Hercules taking 4-34 in his 10.4 overs.

York have not yet given up hope of retaining the title they have collected for the last five years. They were victorious by 185 runs at Driffield after declaring at 302-6. Duncan Snell and Liam McKendry had an opening partnership of 116, Snell going on to complete his second century of the season, McKendry hitting 57 and Alex Collins 57 not out.

Driffield captain David Brent claimed 5-111. York spinners Tom Pringle and Dan Woods took four wickets each as Town were bowled out for 117 in 29.5 overs.

Hull celebrated their first win of the season, overcoming visitors Appleby Frodingham by 28 runs. Matthew Wilkinson led the way with 63 as Hull posted 249-9. In reply, Duncan Heath and captain Matt Morland made 91 and 86, respectively, but there was no depriving Hull of their win.
