Stuart triumphs in battle of brothers

Stuart had a second-wicket partnership of 135 with Simon Widdup, both men making half-centuries as Doncaster totalled 244-9 in 50 overs.

Brother Simon replied with 34 and joined in a stand of 72 for the fifth wicket with John Varley but Collegiate were bowled out for 173, James Stuart following up a fine 47 for Town by taking four wickets.

All-rounder Vic Craven ensured second-placed Harrogate took a full eight points off visitors Castleford, who lost by five wickets. Craven grabbed 4-35 in his 13 overs as Castleford were bowled out for 136 in 36.5 overs, and he went on to hit an undefeated 46. Freddie Collins bowled tidily to take 3-28 from seven overs for Castleford but Harrogate won in the 26th over.

Leaders York were much too strong for bottom of the table Rotherham Town, winning with 123 runs to spare. Ben Sanderson took 5-65 from his 15 overs for Rotherham but Liam McKendry and Alex Collins put on 110 runs for the fifth wicket, York totalling 249-9 in their 55 overs. The home side were dismissed for 126 in 36.3 overs, with Dan Woods taking 4-38 from 9.3 overs and Duncan Snell 3-17 from six.

Driffield Town’s seven-match winning run in league and cup ended with a seven-wicket home defeat at the hands of Cleethorpes, for whom Inderjit Hayre smashed an undefeated 117 containing seven fours and eight sixes. Danny Broumpton, batting at six, hit a defiant 68 for Driffield.

Appleby Frodingham chalked up a fourth successive win, overcoming visitors Sheffield United by five wickets. Matthew Morland made an undefeated 86 after Paul Cummins and South African Helgard Prinsloo had struck half-centuries for Sheffield.

Yorkshire Academy beat Barnsley by 28 runs at Weetwood. No 8 James Wainman contributed a vital 38 for the Academy.

Scarborough held visitors Hull to 120-9 in 30 overs and had reached 59-2 in 15.3 overs when rain ended play.

Defiant last pair set champions example

AN unbroken last-wicket stand of 64 between Jonathan Smith and Sam Wigglesworth was in vain as Wrenthorpe’s hopes of retaining the Premier Division title took another knock with their fourth defeat in five league games.

Chasing Methley’s 222-6 that included 71 by Chris Holliday, Wrenthorpe slumped to 87-9 before they eventually finished on 151-9 after captain Smith (42no) and Wigglesworth (20no) batted out the final 18 overs to deny second-placed Methley maximum points.

Methley are four points adrift of leaders Townville, who coasted to a seven-wicket victory against Carlton.

South African Kyllin Vardhan (5-13) and Jack Hughes (2-32) sent Carlton collapsing from 60-2 to 93 all out and Jonny Booth hit 46 as Townville knocked off the runs in 21 overs.

Wakefield Thornes climbed to third place when Johannes Bothma (4-41), Tom Marsden (40) and Joe Cook (36) gave them the edge against Mirfield Parish Cavaliers. Terence James (43) and Adil Raza (5-51) were best for Cavaliers.

Hunslet Nelson halted their slide when Greg Wadsworth (56no) and Michael Lloyd (32no) shared an unbroken 87-run stand to steer them to an eight-wicket win against Birstall, who were toppled for 90 by Daniel Cross (4-10) and Michael Lambert (3-16).

Shoaib Latif (5-44) and Khalid Usman (4-30) were Ossett’s heroes in a low-scoring game against Batley whose 15-run defeat was tough on Imran Mayat (57) and Huzaifa Patel (5-40).

Scholes retained top spot in Division One by crushing East Leeds who were routed for 77 by Aleem Ladak (5-35) and Joe Duffy (4-36), despite a last-wicket partnership of 30 between John Gomersall and Allan Olbison.

Wakefield St Michael’s climbed to second with a five-wicket success against Wakefield Thornes while Oulton and East Ardsley maintained their challenges by beating Hopton Mills and Liversedge respectively.

David and Ashley Battye claimed 6-43 and 3-44 respectively in East Ardsley’s 67-run victory.

Six-hitting Sarfaz is hero for Woodlands

Leaders Woodlands defeated Pudsey St Lawrence by 88 runs to keep their bid for a seventh title in nine seasons on course.

The champions looked in trouble at 127-7 but then big-hitting Sarfaz Ahmed changed the complexion of the game as he hit six sixes in an unbeaten 46 off just 24 balls.

Captain Pieter Swanepoel (39) joined him in an eighth-wicket stand of 77 which helped Woodlands reach 205-9. Simon Mason (43) was their other main contributor.

St Lawrence, who had started the day joint second, were dismissed for 117 as Swanepoel picked up 3-30.

Woodlands face another big test on Saturday at Cleckheaton who have sole possession of second place after a 47-run win at Saltaire.

Battling knocks by Ian Nicholson (66), captain John Wood (41) and Mally Nicholson (38) helped Cleckheaton to 207-7 then pace bowlers Wood (3-17) and James Lee (3-61) did much of the work as Saltaire were dismissed for 160.

Manningham Mills moved up to third after captain Adam Patel hit an unbeaten 102 in their 80-run win at Lightcliffe. Patel’s century included two sixes and 11 fours.

Adal Islam (41) and Farhan Khan (40) helped their side to 264-5 before Zeeshan Qasim (4-44) and Ali (3-48) helped bowl out Lightcliffe for 184. Opener Charles Roebuck (82) and Suleman Khan (33) were Lightcliffe’s top scorers.

Left-arm spinner Glenn Roberts took 6-32 as Pudsey Congs bowled out bottom team Morley for 128 to seal a 22-run win.

The old guard of Babar Butt (38), Roberts (37no) and Andrew Bairstow (31) were the main contributors to Congs’ total of 150 as Morley’s spinners Kashif Naveed (5-50) and David Paynter (3-34) posed problems.

Captain Mark Lawson and paceman David Stiff were the key figures in Hanging Heaton’s 57-run victory over East Bierley.

Lawson made 69 as Hanging Heaton posted a score of 214 after recovering from 58-4. Yassir Abbas took (5-35).

Stiff took 5-42 as East Bierley were bowled out for 157. Andrew Rennison (42) and Tabbi Bhatti (40) were their top scorers.
