Swallow continues the family tradition

The Swallow family have given wonderful service to Elsecar Cricket Club down the decades, and continue to do so.

Ian Swallow cracked an unbeaten 104, with eight fours and five sixes as the Premier Division champions and Yorkshire Council play-off winners reached 268-5 in their opening match.

Jason Meadows added 85, with 13 boundaries, then guests Coal Aston were sent packing for 85 by Iftikhar Afzal (4-33) and Rob Jones (3-21).

Darfield, winners of the Council Supplementary competition, lost at home to Whiston, making 179-9, Andy Tomlinson claiming 4-33 for the guests, who answered with 180-7, Liam Heathcote the main reason for the victory as he crafted a top score of 75.

Houghton Main batted steadily away to Aston Hall.

Issrar Asif top scored for Main with 54 which turned out to be too much for the hosts, who collapsed to 98 all out.

The bowling skills of Liam Morris, 4-30, and Ilyas Mohammed, 3-10 did the damage.

Wickersley got rid of hosts Hallam for just 115, Haidar Jahangir bagging 4-23, and replied with 118-7, Shaajhan Younis posting an impressive half-century.

Barnsley made their trip to Wath worthwhile with a fine knock of 187-4, opener Simon Widdup clouting 93, and Jon Trower 41. Wath closed on the back foot at 115-7, Matt Higgins 31, with junior Nathan Firn picking up 4-23.

The much-anticipated match bewteen Black Sheep champions Whitley Hall and guests Treeton was postponed.

Elsecar Seconds completed a winning club double when making 248-8 at Conisbrough in Division One, opener Adrian Medows clobbering 26 boundaries in his innings of 148.

Youngster Mark Hope added 41, then Conisbrough were sent back for 185, junior Matt Barnes striking a half century, against the attack of Jack Shutt, 5-56, and Hope, 3-30.
