Thackley forced to take opening draw

Defending champions Thackley had to settle for two points in a thrilling finish to their opening match against Bilton.

With a lot of Yorkshire club cricket postponed, Aire Wharfe managed to complete all but three games although most had to face difficult weather conditions.

Thackley’s title-winning attack of Nasser Jamal (5-32) and Yaser Ali (3-43) were back in the groove as Bilton were bowled out for 166.

Majid Khan hit 46 on his Thackley debut and they looked on target while Bradley Goodaire (32) was going strong but when he was lbw with two overs to go and another wicket fell in the final over, the last pair batted out a draw.

Toby Jacklin was another player straight back in form.

He hit an impressive half century and with John Swain (61) saw Collingham to 210-8, then took 5-28 as last season’s runners-up Kirkstall Educational were skittled out for 76.

Yasar Ali produced a 3.5 over spell of 5-9 on debut as Burley slumped to 57, setting up a nine-wicket win for Beckwithshaw while a tense clash between Follifoot and Guiseley, which included spinner Robert Atkinson taking 7-29, was beaten by the rain.
