Title battle destined to go down to wire JCT BRADFORD

East Bierley leapt from fourth place to top the table after a dramatic day which saw fellow title contenders Bradford & Bingley and Woodlands suffer surprise defeats.

Fourteen points cover the top five clubs with just two weeks to go. East Bierley have played a game more than all their rivals and have no match on Saturday.

They have 291 points and are just three ahead of previous leaders Pudsey St Lawrence, who had no game, and Pudsey Congs. Bradford & Bingley have 280 points and Woodlands 277.

Andrew Rennison (133) and Lee Goddard (107no) shared a third-wicket stand of 237 which enabled East Bierley to declare on 296-3 after 39 overs against Bankfoot. Paceman Muhammad Azharullah took 6-25 as the bottom team were dismissed for 122 to seal a 174-run win.

Pudsey Congs, who defeated Farsley by 115 runs, are the dark horses. Eugene Burzler (86) and former Farsley man Gareth Phillips (62) helped Congs to 310-5. Farsley, despite 105 from Jamaican Lorenzo Inghram, were dismissed for 195. Burzler took 4-87 to round off a fine individual display.

The biggest upset came at Yeadon where the home side scored a three-wicket win over Bradford & Bingley to keep alive hopes of avoiding relegation.

Yeadon bowled out Bradford & Bingley for 98 as Damon Gormley took 4-18. Yeadon were 57-7 but eased home thanks to Shabhan Raheem (25no) and Grant Soames (19no).

Woodlands dropped from second to fifth after a 103-run defeat at Cleckheaton. Slow left-armer Mark Cummins took 5-20 as they were bowled out for 86. Ammer Mahmood (66) and John Wood (39) were the main contributors in Cleckheaton's 189, while spinner Chris Brice (5-65) was Woodlands most successful bowler.

Saltaire's relegation was rubber-stamped after they suffered a 77-run defeat against Baildon while Gomersal defeated Undercliffe by six wickets.

With one game to go just three points separate the three contenders for the second promotion spot from Division Two.

Lightcliffe hopes slumped when they suffered a 65 run defeat against fourth-placed Bowling Old Lane.

Manningham Mills are now second after a 111-run win at Hartshead Moor.
