Title rivals on track to lock horns again

The top two teams in the South Yorkshire Senior League last season, Treeton and Whitley Hall, each got off to a fine start in their bid for the Premier Division title race.

Treeton, aiming to retain their crown, whipped out guests Houghton Main for just 98, Steve Foster claiming three cheap wickets, then the Washfield Lane outfit eased to a 10-wicket victory, Gareth Davis unbeaten on 57.

Whitley Hall, the Yorkshire Council KO winners and Black Sheep Champions of Champions tournament winners, came in at 317-7 with Chris Siddall slamming 173, including 23 boundaries, way too many for hosts Coal Aston, sent packing for 129 by South African Jaco Castle, 4-24, and Jim Tasker, 3-22.

Wickersley got rid of hosts Aston Hall for 110 thanks to Lesroy Weekes (5-25) and Reece Shutt, (3-11) before knocking off the runs for the loss of one wicket.
