Tom Kohler-Cadmore one of six Yorkshire CCC players in England training call-up

YORKSHIRE’s TOm Kohler-Cadmore has been given extra incentive to push his claims for a full international call-up after being named as part of England’s 55-strong back-to-training group.

Five other Yorkshire players join the uncapped Kohler-Cadmore in the bumper squad with Joe Root, Jonny Bairstow, Adil Rashid, Dawid Malan and David Willey all named.

Kohler-Cadmore, 25, played for England Lions on their tour to Australia earlier this year and is one of 14 uncapped players named in the group, who will not be brought together in one place.

Instead, individual sessions will take place at a number of county venues, the only form of training currently approved due to the coronavirus pandemic which has prevented any cricket being played this season.

All but Root from the Yorkshire contingent will train at Headingley, with the England Test captain stationed at Trent Bridge for travel reasons.

Yorkshire first-team coach Andrew Gale will return from furlough leave to help with the players’ preparations, along with assistant coach Richard Pyrah and strength and conditioning coach Ian Fisher.

ECB performance director Mo Bobat, who joined the selectors and the head coach Chris Silverwood in drawing up the list, said: “The pool of players will give selectors strong options when it comes to selecting squads across formats further down the line, as we move closer to our aim of playing international cricket this summer.”

“We will need to continue to work closely with our medical team and government to ensure that our return to training and play activities are in line with best-practice guidelines.

“We’re also really grateful for the positive and collaborative response from our county colleagues who are doing a great job at facilitating coaching and support for the players. The fact that we can call on our network to support the national effort shows the strength of our system.”

Format-specific squads will be named at a later date, with hopes still high that the delayed three-match Test series against the West Indies will go ahead sometime in July.

Willey’s return marks his first call-up since he was dropped from England’s one-day squad ahead of last summer’s World Cup triumph.

Alex Hales, who was dropped from the World Cup squad when news broke of two failed drugs tests, is not included, his exclusion following one-day captain Eoin Morgan’s assertion that the breach in trust between the batsman and his team-mates had not yet healed.
