Drakes Huddersfield

IT TAKES a lot to upstage Indian Test batsman Wasim Jaffer but Huddersfield Town footballer Tom Denton did just that for his home village club Shepley.

Jaffer has been in magnificent batting form since being snapped up by Skelmanthorpe. His 185 against Broad Oak on June 5 was the highest individual score in the league but Denton went one better, scoring 186 in Shepley's 153-run victory over visitors Hoylandswaine. Opening partner Sarjinder Pal Singh contributed 105 to a stand of 280 and Shepley made 354-4.

Jaffer hit his seventh century of the season in Skelmanthorpe's seven-wicket win against Kirkburton. His undefeated 116 contained 16 fours and two sixes.

Jaffer's former club, champions Scholes, were the latest victims of unbeaten leaders Honley. Leg-spinner Tom Craddock took 5-24 in 11 overs and paceman Harlon Haye grabbed 3-21 in his 11 overs, reducing Scholes to 109 all out. It took Honley just 17.2 overs to win.
