Townville in a repeat triumph to close gap

METHLEY’S lead in the Premiership was cut to five points when they lost by three wickets to closest rivals Townville.

Conor Harvey struck six sixes in a whirlwind 63 off 48 balls and shared a 99-run stand with Jack Hughes (51no) as Townville repeated their Heavy Woollen Cup semi-final win at Little Church Lane by overhauling Methley’s 214-8 with just two balls remaining. Marcus Walmsley (61) led Methley’s scoring.

Ossett, Wakefield Thornes and Scholes maintained their title challenges.

Shoaib Latif hammered his third century in four games and shared a 142-run partnership with John Sadler (49) as Ossett piled up 252-7 against Carlton, whose reply of 162-7 featured an unbeaten 56 by James Glynn.

Tharindu Perera (77), Johan Bothma (50no) and David Toft (42) guided Thornes to a two-wicket win against Mirfield Parish Cavaliers.

Muhammed Shahnawaz (51) and Nazar Hussain (37) put on 61 for the ninth wicket as Cavaliers recovered from 110-8 to post 199.

Mohammed Sharafat (5-21) limited Hopton Mills to 164-9 but Scholes were 26-6 before Sharafat (67no) rescued them by putting on 65 with Liam Thomas (28) and sharing a match-winning unbroken eighth-wicket stand of 75 with Christian Jackson (40no).

Hunslet Nelson’s revival continued with a second successive victory when South African Jean Strydom (74no) and captain Tommy Roy (43) steered them to 260-7 at Altofts.

In reply, Will Stiff, Derrick Hammill and Daniel Cross each claimed three wickets as Altofts were bowled out for 204, despite Matthew Fuller’s half-century.

Joe Ellis top scored with 67 in Wrenthorpe’s 258-7 and then bagged 6-45 to send Birstall collapsing from 157-1 to 199 all out.
