Twist in the title tale thanks to Undercliffe

JCT 600 Bradford

Newly-promoted Undercliffe added a new twist to the title race when they defeated Gomersal by four-wickets to go top for the first time this season.

Tabassum Bhatti, a championship winner with Baildon last season, made 77 and Ashley Metcalfe (44) as Undercliffe chased down a Gomersal total of 252-5 with four balls to spare.

Richard Gould (74) and Andy Gorrod (41) shared an opening stand of 120 for Gomersal while lusty hitting from Richard Whitehurst (67) gave late impetus to the innings.

Cleckheaton recently inflicted a first defeat on Pudsey St Lawrence and on Saturday they gave Woodlands' title hopes a jolt too as they defeated them by four wickets.

Cleckheaton's overseas player Ammar Mahmood was in sparkling form taking 5-24 and making 52. For Woodlands, left-arm spinner Chris Brice took 6-49 but couldn't save his side.

Another overseas player in match-winning form was East Bierley's Mohammad Azharullah. His team had been reduced to 78-6 as their former second-team player Chris Brook (6-39) struck. Thanks to Azharullah's 57, East Bierley made 185. The pace bowler then took 5-47 as he and Paul Hutchison (5-39) dismissed Bankfoot for 94.

Farsley's West Indian Lorenzo Inghram took 4-36 and made 52 but ended up a loser at Pudsey Congs. The home side triumphed by 73 runs with Andrew Bairstow (61) and former Farsley player Gareth Phillips (61) leading the way in a total of 227-7.

For the second successive week there was a tie as Bradford & Bingley ended level with Yeadon.

Despite Chris Thompson's 41, Bradford & Bingley couldn't overhaul a modest Yeadon total of 137-9.

Credit for that was due to Grant Soames (4-26), Mahmood Rasool (3-31) and Andrew Robertson (3-45).

Saltaire gave their hopes of avoiding relegation a boost with a seven-wicket win over champions Baildon.

Wasim Munawar (52no) and opener Tim Jackson (50no) shared an unbroken stand of 87 as Saltaire romped home after dismissing Baildon for 138. Nadeem Mahommed (4-54) and Jackson (3-27) did the damage.
