Unbeaten Slater is Cup final star

Slater was voted man of the match for his unbeaten 88 which helped his side post a record total of 309-5 since the competition adopted a 50-over format.

And Slater fittingly took the final wicket as Farsley were bowled out for 120 to seal a 189-run win – the biggest ever recorded in the competition's history which stretches back to 1904.

Bradford & Bingley's decision to bat first was vindicated as they cashed in on some wayward Farsley bowling.

Openers Simon Davies (32) and Scott Etherington (33) set the tone with an opening stand of 68.

Slater was the lynchpin of the innings with his well-paced innings. He struck 11 fours and was well supported initially by Sri Lankan Naweed Ghany (33), then with Matthew Duce (32), Chris Thompson (20) and finally with James Davies who hit a robust 38 not out off 24 balls with two sixes and four fours.

It was Davies who made the initial strikes when Farsley replied. He took the first two wickets and veteran Richard McCarthy also picked up two as Farsley slumped to 16-4. It was a position they never recovered from. Shabbir Rashid (29) was their top scorer as they subsided to 120 all out.

Slater took the final wicket with the aid of a catch by McCarthy to spark Bradford & Bingley's celebrations of a first Cup win for seven years.
