Warriner hat-trick proves to no avail

Bradford League

IT was the newcomers who stole the limelight in the second round of Division One matches.

The biggest impression was created by Farsley's Bradley Kruger – a close-season capture from Northamptonshire County League side Finedon Dolben.

Kruger blasted an unbeaten 88 off 75 balls which contained three sixes and 14 fours as he and Yorkshire's James Lee (55) propelled Farsley to a seven-wicket win at Saltaire.

The ferocity of their strokeplay enabled them to pass Saltaire's 197 all out in just 29.3 overs.

Pudsey St Lawrence emerged as the early leaders after new off-spinner Steve Watts took 4-39 as they dismissed Undercliffe for 144 to secure a 69-run win. It was the former Dunstable Town player's second successive four-wicket haul. Opener Alex Stead top scored with 50 in St Lawrence's total 213 all out.

Saints have 38 points and are four ahead of Woodlands who had 17-year-old Adam Wood (65no) to thank for steering them to a four-wicket win at East Bierley with two balls to spare.

Wood, in his first season of Division One cricket, looked at ease as he built on the 77 made by opener Sam Frankland to ensure Woodlands overcame an East Bierley score of 221-9. Opener Gharib Razak hit a half-century before East Bierley were undone by the left-arm spin of Woodlands' stand-in captain Chris Brice (6-56). He led the side because Woodlands' new captain Pieter Swanepoel is stuck in South Africa due to the flight chaos caused by the Icelandic volcano.

Champions Baildon lost by 12-runs to last season's runners-up Bradford & Bingley. Captain Phil Slater, a former Baildon player, took 4-30 as the Jenny Laners were dismissed for 176. Chris Thompson (69) top scored for Bradford & Bingley.

Gomersal's Greg Pickles (73no) and Phil Carter (50no) shared an unbroken partnership of 127 to secure a seven-wicket win at Cleckheaton.

Already it is looking like a season of struggle for promoted Bankfoot. They were bowled out for 67 as Yeadon secure a 10-wicket win

In Division Two, Spen Victoria's 17-year-old opening bowler Robert Warriner took 7-38, including a hat-trick, but still ended up on the losing side. Spen went down by 109 runs to Hanging Heaton.
