Weekend Review: Tables turned as Andersson guides New Farnley to victory

Having seen off Bradford League defending champions Hanging Heaton the week before, Pudsey St Lawrence got off to a solid start against another of their major rivals New Farnley.

Mark Robertshaw (78) and Charlie Best (43) helped them to 156-3 but then Simon Lambert (6-49) stepped in and they had to settle for 228-9.

Martin Andersson led the reply, hitting an unbeaten 115 and sharing century stands with Lambert (51) and Andrew Hodd (41no) as New Farnley eased to victory with eight wickets in hand.

Jonathan Tattersall starred as York regained top spot in Yorkshire Premier North from Sheriff Hutton Bridge.

He hit 91 not out and with Duncan Snell (91) and Charlie Elliot (41no) set a target of 275-5.

Tattersall then took 4-47 as the home side were restricted to 231-8 despite a century stand between Adam Fisher (84) and Dulash Udayanga (56).

Elsewhere in the Bradford League results turned many table positions on their head, including a first win of the season for bottom side East Bierley against Cleckheaton.

It looked like another loss when Nick Walker (4-43) and Josh Thurwell (5-38) bowled the home side out for 133 but a 5-29 spell from Ibrar Younis saw Cleckheaton collapse to 84.

Four wickets each from Conor Harvey and Ritchie Bresnan, who took three in an over, bowled out Lightcliffe for 176, which Townville passed for the loss of five wickets, thanks largely to Brayden Clark making 70.

Waqas Ahmed (6-64) and Grant Soames (4-50) dismissed Hanging Heaton for 246, Callum Geldart scoring 81, and a 140-run stand between Soames (75) and Adam Patel (79) steered Methley to victory. There was no surprise at Woodlands where Tim Jackson (78), Cieran Garner (66no) and Chris Brice (6-54) starred in a 50-run win over Scholes. Ryan Cooper (107) shared century stands with Dan Hodgson (55) and Patrick Kruger (56) as Farsley comfortably overcame Bradford & Bingley.

In Yorkshire North, Andrew Bilton (110) and Simon Tennant (52) put Woodhouse Grange on the road to victory over Castleford despite the efforts of David Wainwright, who took 5-36, made two run-outs and then hit 53 before himself being run out.

Ben Elvidge (67) top-scored in Scarborough’s 239-8 before Harrogate were dismissed for 151, with Jack Holt leading the way with 5-50.

Bilal Anjum and Matthew Taylor hit half centuries as Yorkshire Academy won by 28 runs at Sessay and Scott Hopkinson (66 & 4-54) and Sam Grant (28no & 5-29) dominated in Clifton Alliance’s win over Acomb.

A century stand between Kavindu Kulasekara (55) and Danny Broumpton (63) put Driffield Town on the way to a surprise win over Stamford Bridge.

Sheffield Collegiate continue to head Yorkshire South Premier after victory over Barnsley, inspired by Azeem Rafiq, who followed up a half century with 4-52.

The top score in Wakefield Thornes’s 122 came from the 29 extras, but a stunning 7-4 spell from Steve Morgan skittled out Appleby Frodingham for 65.

Chris Cobb (44) and Shahjahan Younis (51no) eased Treeton past Whiston’s 146 total, while Ali Waqas (59) and Curtis Free (5-54) led the way in Doncaster’s win at Hallam, for who Joe Cooper took 4-55 and hit 58.

Despite the efforts of Callum Bethel (5-46), Mark Cummins (53) made sure Wickersley overhauled Whitley Hall’s 175 in which Cameron Gordon took 5-41.

An opening century stand between Matthew Cartwright (82) and Jack Simmonite (69) and a 5-41 spell from Adam Clarke saw Aston Hall to victory over Cleethorpes and lifted them off the bottom of the table.

Gurman Randhawa (5-30) and Saeed Anwar (71no) starred as Hoylandswaine beat Kirkburton to stay top of Huddersfield Premier, while bottom club Golcar picked up only their second win of the season, beating Mirifeld PC thanks to a 5-9 haul from Steve Whitwam.

Otley and Burley remain at the top of Aire Wharfe despite losing to Pool and Rawdon respectively. Marcus Berryman hit 125 not out to clinch Rawdon’s win.

Duckworth Lewis does for Delph & Dobcross

On Sunday in the ECB National Club Championship Delph & Dobcross put their recent batting failures behind them and set Heywood to chase 246-5.

Graeme Simpson had set the pace, hitting an unbeaten 101 in 75 balls and putting on 97 with Nathan Jones (52) and 91 with Luke Hargreaves (33).

It was nip and tuck as the home side closed in on the target but rain interruptions cut the game short, Heywood declared winners by Duckworth Lewis.

Heavy Woollen Cup holders Woodlands beaten

Hanging Heaton knocked out holders Heavy Woollen Cup holders Woodlands in a flurry of big hitting that took the number of runs scored at Bennett Lane this weekend past 1,000.

They home side stormed to 345-6 with Callum Geldart smashing 19 fours and six sixes in a sparkling 163.

He shared century stands with Ben Kohler-Cadmore (60) and David Stiff who hoisted six sixes in racing to 65 in 43 balls.

Woodlands looked unlikely to hit the asking rate until a fifth wicket stand of 105 between Liam Collins (78) and Cieran Garner (35) raised hopes only for Geldart to take 5-57 and dismiss them for 271.

Despite a battling 44 from James Glynn and a late charge of 30no by No10 Paul Marshall, Wrenthorpe could only muster 181 and Chris Holliday with six sixes in his 82, made sure Hoylandswaine continue to fly the flag for the Huddersfield League.

Steve Bullen (80no) and Martin Andersson (70) led the way as New Farnley set a target of 290 which was 100 too many for Shepley.
