West shatter own league runs record

CLAYTON West broke their own record Huddersfield League score for 50-overs cricket by piling up a massive 464-4 against Hall Bower's toiling bowlers at Back Lane.

Nine years after setting the league record of 411-7 against Dalton, the Championship side smashed their way to a new high mark, with Australian opener Gregory Davis accounting for more than half his team's runs.

Davis struck 27 fours and 12 sixes in accumulating 245 and he shared a stand of 308 with Stuart Rank, who made 156. Rank hammered 14 fours and 12 sixes and had a second-wicket partnership of 125 with Nick Sharp (34). Andrew Peaker took two wickets but at a cost of 156.

Medium pacers Dean Rickson (6-28) and Chris Thomson (4-56) reduced Hall Bower to 139 all out.

Kirkburton had two undefeated century-makers in Matthew Wood and Charlie Roebuck as they won by eight wickets at Marsden. Patrick Hartland made a valiant 96 for the losers.

Gary Colman struck an unbeaten 83 and took 4-30 in 15 overs for Barkisland, who won by six wickets at Broad Oak. Needing four to win off the last over, Barkisland reached their target with one ball to spare, Colman hitting the winning runs.

Honley were 103-5 in reply to home side Holmfirth's 181-8 but Martin Green and Danny Howard saw them safely home, Green blasting 69 off 28 balls and Howard making 35.

Elland were no match for Delph & Dobcross, who won by 123 runs. Bilal Khiljee was hugely influential for Delph, making 119 not out and taking 3-36. Khiljee's innings contained 11 fours and five sixes.

Zach Morris (134) and Moreland Le Blanc (68 no) had a partnership of 174 for Hoylandswaine who defeated Slaithwaite by eight wickets in the 49th over. Wajid Hussain's century helped the losers pick up a point.

Champions Scholes defeated visitors Golcar by seven wickets despite a fine 77 from Steve Whitwam.

Shepley were seven-wicket winners at Skelmanthorpe, with Liam Wiles's 106 including 12 fours and two sixes and Sarjinder Pal Singh hitting 81. Wasim Jaffer, who has topped 1,200 runs for Skelmanthorpe, made 52.
