Whitley ambitions put on hold by the weather - BEN BAILEY SOUTH YORKSHIRE

Following the previous week's programme, when glorious weather saw the highest ever aggregate of runs scored, with batsmen rampant and a record number of century-makers, Saturday saw a complete washout of the day's fixtures.

The two big talking points of the season to date have been the Premier Division championship challenge of Whitley Hall, their strongest-ever team, including the former Sheffield United mercurial all-rounder Neil Longhurst, bidding for the club's first-ever top flight title, following many years of near-misses, to take the title from last year's champions Treeton.

Both clubs have made a tremendous start to the campaign, each are unbeaten, with possibly the League's top all-rounder Steve Foster, and the most destructive batsman, Andy Tomlinson, again in top form for the Washfield Lane club.

Another big topic of discussion has been the apparent unravelling of former champions Elsecar.

A side with no less than sixteen top-flight titles behind them, but who haven't looked the same since the departure of star Lesroy Weekes a couple of seasons ago, and who lost by five wickets to Premier Division newcomers Whiston on their latest outing.

Elsecar have the chance to get back to winning ways when they entertain Tickhill this coming Saturday, while both Treeton and Whitley Hall expect nothing less than full points on their respective trips to Barnsley and Rotherham Phoenix.

Some of the other Premier Division games this coming weekend include: Aston Hall v Hallam, Houghton Main v Whiston, Wath v Wickersley.
