Whitwam piles on misery for Holmfirth

AUSTRALIAN all-rounder Nathan Freitag struck an undefeated century in vain as Slaithwaite fell to a 57-run defeat at second-placed Shepley.

Danny Glover, Amar Rashid and Liam Wiles helped themselves to half-centuries in Shepley’s 274-6. Freitag then launched an assault and Dave Berry assisted with 65, but Slaithwaite fell well short but had seven wickets intact in claiming a point in the battle to stay up.

Holmfirth are still without an outright win and were shot out for 45 in 19.1 overs by Golcar, who were denied much batting practice before their Sykes Cup final against Hoylandswaine.

Steve Whitwam grabbed 6-20 and Will Hinchliffe (4-21) to wreck Holmfirth’s innings and Golcar won by eight wickets.

Leaders Hoylandswaine had a six-wicket win at Shelley, who were bowled out for 141, Zafir Patel and Richard Wilkinson taking three wickets each.

Barkisland climbed above opponents Scholes into third with a 71-run win. Jamie Summerscales top-scored for Barkisland with 82 and Peter Drysdale replied with 81.

Half-centuries from Jonathan Butterfield and Iqbal Khan saw Kirkburton to a seven-wicket triumph at Skelmanthorpe and Fahid Rehman hit an unbeaten 93 in Elland’s four-wicket victory at Meltham, who were bowled out for 148. Elland reached their target in 38.3 overs to end three successive defeats.
