Wood and Sadler go past 500-run barrier

BARKISLAND finally recorded their first league win of the season – and they did it in style with a 10-wicket trouncing of Marsden in a match reduced by rain to 25 overs-a-side.

Chris Kilner made a half-century for Marsden and Steve Butters fell just one run short of his as Marsden reached 163-6. Openers Andrew Gleave and Alex Kaye then gathered the required runs with four overs to spare, Gleave leading the way with 89 and Kaye making 67.

At the top end of the table, Delph & Dobcross were rained off against Elland but Honley missed the chance to cash in, losing at home to Scholes by six wickets in one of the shock results of the season.

Scholes, who had not won since mid-May, looked set to become victims of Honley opener Simon Kelly, who made 90 off 125 balls, hitting nine fours and a six, and No 3 Michael Fraine, whose half-century off 95 balls contained eight fours and a six.

However, Tim Brook proved economical, taking 4-37 in 11 overs, and Honley were 208-7 after their 50 overs. Scholes passed the home total in the 47th over, Matthew Smith, Tom Boorman and James Noble all making scores in the forties and Iqbal Khan hitting an unbeaten 39.

Kirkburton overcame visitors Skelmanthorpe by seven wickets in a game reduced to 47 overs-a-side. Louis Aspeling and Paul Davis made half-centuries for Skelmanthorpe, who reached a respectable 236-5. Kirkburton won as former Yorkshire opener Matthew Wood reached 500 runs for the season with an undefeated 98 containing 11 fours and two sixes.

Wood shared a third-wicket partnership of 156 with Greg Buckley (73) and Kirkburton won with 2.1 overs to spare.
