Wood delighted as York retain crown ECB YORKSHIRE

After a seven-wicket home victory over bottom-of-the-table Hull confirmed York as champions with three matches remaining, Wood said: "I am absolutely delighted, especially for the young players who have come into the side and done so well.

"I don't want to single anyone out because our success is down to teamwork and consistency even though we have constantly rotated the players."

York are undefeated in the league since June last year and Duncan Snell's innings of 83 took him past the 1,000 runs mark as he shared an unbroken fourth-wicket partnership of 124 with Alex Collins, who made 65. Hull collapsed from 157-4 to 166 all out in 51.1 overs, Tom Pringle taking seven wickets.

York made an unsteady start, losing three wickets for 43 runs, but Snell and Collins then took them to victory in the 20th over.

Barnsley's 61-run victory at Harrogate boosted their chances of finishing the season as runners-up after a fifth-place last season. All-rounder Vic Craven took his runs total for the season to 938 with a half-century for Harrogate and he claimed four wickets but Gary Ballance was in fine form with the bat for Barnsley, his 85 including 11 boundaries. Azeem Rafiq also shone for the winners with 49 and five wickets.

Third-placed Yorkshire Academy slipped up against Castleford at Headingley where David Wainwright was the match-winner with an undefeated 98, containing 12 boundaries, and a six-wicket haul.

Scarborough made it three successive wins as hosts Sheffield United went down by six wickets. Opener Darren Harland had 10 fours and two sixes in his undefeated century and James Finch took five wickets.

Pakistan Test spinner Nadeem Khan took 7-48 in 17 overs for Sheffield Collegiate but his side lost by 18 runs to visitors Rotherham. Seamer Ben Sanderson bowled 17.3 overs and took 6-33 for the winners.

Jaco Scholtz made 80 off 73 balls for Appleby Frodingham and Duncan Heath struck 69 in a 78 runs victory over Driffield.

At Doncaster, Cleethorpes reached 254-8 after being 87-6 and won by two wickets.
