Woodlands increase lead at top of table

All-rounder Sarfraz Ahmed produced another big performance as Woodlands stretched their lead in the Division One title race to 33 points as their two main challengers lost ground.

Thanks to Ahmed, Woodlands were able to recover from 98-7 to record an 87-run win at Baildon.

Only opener Scott Richardson (39) had made any impression until Ahmed (45) and Usman Salim (37) revived their side to reach 190-8.

Ahmed (4-11) and Pieter Swanepoel (4-34) pinned Baildon down and only a defiant 64 by Richard Atkins saw them to 111.

Cleckheaton’s title hopes suffered a body blow as they lost by 86-runs to Bradford & Bingley.

All-rounder Chris Thompson made 51 as he led a recovery from 46-5 with Naweed Ghany (39) which enabled Bradford & Bingley to make 197-8, while Cleckheaton were all out for 111.

Undercliffe were involved in their second tie of the season. Wicketkeeper Luke Holroyd scrambled a single off the final ball to level the scores after Pudsey Congs’ paceman Muhammad Naved (3-53) had taken two wickets in two balls in an eventful last over.

Ben Heritage (44) and Nawaz Sardar (41) were the top scorers for Undercliffe as they finished on 180-6 in reply to Congs’ 180-9, in which Adam Patel (47), Edward Walmsley (32no) and Naved (30) were the main contributors, while off spinner Ashley Metcalfe took 4-38.

Manningham Mills batsman Gulsheraz Ahmed made an unbeaten 104 to push his old club Gomersal closer to relegation after a 119-run win. Iqbal Khan (4-40) and Zeeshan Qasim (3-9) impressed as Gomersal were dismissed for 126.

Farsley’s batsmen Steve Simpson (49), Barrie Frankland (42), Joe Greaves (38) and Ian Philliskirk (34) helped their side to 256-7 as they defeated Pudsey St Lawrence by 57 runs.

Ryan Lumb took 4-57 as St Lawrence faltered after a second-wicket stand between Mark Robertshaw (83) and Dave Hester (44) and were bowled out for 199.

Opener Gavin Hamilton made 88 as East Bierley defeated Hanging Heaton by nine runs.
