Yorkshire blow as Andrew Gale out for rest of season

YORKSHIRE captain Andrew Gale will miss the rest of the season with a broken arm, dealing a major blow to his team’s chances in the battle against relegation from the LV= County Championship Division One.

Gale missed yesterday’s Clydesdale Bank 40 defeat to Derbyshire with the problem, and an X-ray today confirmed the worst.

The 27-year-old announced the news via his twitter account, writing: “Broken arm, gutted. These things happen tho.”

Gale has been one of the more reliable performers for the struggling Tykes this season, averaging 40.47 in 12 matches.

His absence will be keenly felt, starting with Wednesday’s crunch fixture against Sussex at Scarborough.

Yorkshire currently sit second bottom in the standings, four points adrift of Worcestershire having played a game more.

Gale suffered the injury during a net session on Saturday when he was struck by a delivery from Oliver Hannon-Dalby.

Jacques Rudolph, who is on a short-term deal with the club, will captain the side in Gale`s absence.

He, though, will miss a match himself, with the Championship game at Warwickshire clashing with a South Africa training camp.
