Jonathan Trower hit 120 to take his league tally past 500 for the season and put league leaders Barnsley on the way to a six-wicket win over Sheffield United.

Ali Jahangir (5-62) and Callum Bethel (3-61) pegged United to 237 in which Suleman Saleem (79) and Jaco Scholtz (71) led the way.

Trower hit 19 boundaries and Azeem Rafiq cracked 60 off 36 balls.

Rotherham kept close on Barnsley’s heels with an eight-wicket win at Doncaster after Ben Sanderson (4-21) and Archie Ogden (4-35) dismissed the home side for 115. Anthony Del Borrello (67no) led the run chase.

A quickfire century from captain George Ross put Harrogate on the way to victory over Appleby Frodingham and back into the title race after three defeats in a row.

Connor Ryan (50) and Jonathan Tattersall (64) gave them a solid start before Ross smashed six fours and five sixes in making 102 off 80 balls.

Appleby Frodingham never looked like matching the 293-8 target and David Foster (5-43) and Tattersall (3-53) saw them bowled out for 157.

Openers Andy Simpson (55) and Tom Appleyard (97) put bottom club Hull on the way to 271-9 and Jahangir Alam (6-59) and Charlie Hodgson (3-36) clinched the win by dismissing Castleford for 211.

Cleethorpes failed to build on an 89-run partnership between David Mansfield (54) and Alex Osmond (79) and fell for 186 with James Logan (4-30) and with Jordan Thompson (4-28) doing the damage. Elliot Callis (72) and Mosun Hussain (82no) led the chase to give Yorkshire Academy an eight-wicket win.

Matthew Dixon took 6-65 as Driffield were bowled out for 189, setting up a seven-wicket win for Sheffield Collegiate.

Nick Walker blasted an unbeaten 105 from 76 balls and blew the Division One title race wide open as he helped New Farnley inflict a third-successive defeat on leaders Pudsey St Lawrence.

Walker arrived at the crease with his side struggling at 108-5 after some good bowling from Joshua Wilson (4-36), but he quickly transformed the game as he hammered seven sixes and nine fours and helped his side to 245-8.

St Lawrence made a brave chase with Mark Robertshaw (76) leading the way. They needed six runs from the last over to win but only managed three as leg-spinner Mark Lawson (4-64) kept them in check.

Woodlands are four points behind after a 92-run win over bottom-team Saltaire. Greg Finn (44) and Sam Frankland (41) helped them to 205 before spinner Chris Brice took 4-39 as Saltaire were dismissed for 113.

Third-placed Hanging Heaton are 14 points further back after compiling the day’s highest score of 346-6 as they beat East Bierley by 118 runs.

Former Yorkshire player Gary Fellows hit a stunning 192 during an opening stand of 298 with Nick Connolly (11), who made his fourth century of the season.

Nick Rushworth (53) and James Ford (51) made half-centuries as East Bierley made 228-8 in reply.

Champions Cleckheaton are just 28 points behind leaders Pudsey St Lawrence and look like a side that could mount a late challenge after a six-wicket win over Lightcliffe.

Leg-spinner Tanzeel Altaf (6-43) sent Lightcliffe tumbling to 160 all out after captain Alex Stead (52) had given them a bright start. Andy Gorrod made a brisk 65 to see Cleckheaton home.

Priestley Cup

LIGHTCLIFFE will face Bradford & Bingley in this year’s Sovereign Health Care Priestley Cup final at Wagon Lane on August 30.

Pudsey Congs’ hopes of adding the trophy to the Bradford League T20 Cup they won two weeks ago, disappeared at Lightcliffe.

Opening bowler Rob Burton produced a devastating spell of 5-30 as Congs crumbled to 56-6 and finally 87 all out to lose by 105 runs.

Overseas player Suleman Khan (3-31) gave Burton good support with his left-arm spin as Lightcliffe, second-bottom of Division One, produced a rousing performance.

Lightcliffe had earlier made 192-9 with captain Alex Stead making 64 and wicketkeeper Mark Horne a useful 28. James Pearson took 3-47 for Congs.

Captain Phil Slater and Jacob Roach were the heroes as Bradford & Bingley defeated a star-studded New Farnley side by 77 runs.

The home side had Yorkshire’s Andrew Hodd and James Middlebrook in their ranks but they could not save their team.

Slater ripped the heart out of the New Farnley innings with 4-26 as New Farnley slumped to 127 all out in reply to Bradford & Bingley’s 204-9. Scott Etherington took 3-43.

Bingley were indebted to Jacob Roach for a timely innings of 57no and Chris Thompson (42) after they slipped to 106-7. The best of the New Farnley bowlers was spinner Dave McCallum, who took 3-31.

Drakes Huddersfield

BIG-HITTING New Zealander Tim Seifert set new records for the Premiership’s and Barkisland’s highest individual score by smashing 15 sixes in a whirlwind 239 off 132 balls in a 157-run win against Moorlands.

Seifert overhauled Geoff Cooke’s Premiership best of 223 not out for Elland against Holmfirth in 1991.

He put on 354 for the second-wicket with Alex Kaye (148) as Barkisland piled up 424-4, a record Premiership total that beat Scholes’ 410-6 at Kirkburton earlier this season.

Moorlands were bowled out for 267, despite half-centuries by Darrell Sykes and Chris Stott.

Joe Carter hammered 119, Tom Brook hit 71 and brother Josh claimed 5-28 as Scholes stayed on course for the Premiership title by beating Golcar by 122 runs.

Ryan Robinson (135no) and Max Joice (44no) shared an unbroken 170-run stand as champions Hoylandswaine maintained their challenge with a seven-wicket victory against Elland, for whom Benji Birkhead and Robin Broom each struck 56.

Third-placed Shepley’s title hopes ended when Wasim Qasim (5-32) and Asim Kurshid (5-40) sent them collapsing from 53-3 to 95 all out, replying to Delph and Dobcross’ 184 that included an unbeaten 50 by Qasim.

Henry Cooper (99), Daniel Taylor (4-41) and Daniel Rushworth (3-32) gave Broad Oak the edge against fellow strugglers Slaithwaite.

Simon Kelly (83), Edward Wilson (56) and Tim Taylor (44) were Honley’s match-winners at Kirkburton.

Louis Sykes (80), Abdul Wahid (79), Yousaf Hasnat (56) and Shershan Naidoo (50) led Shelley to 294-5 at bottom team Skelmanthorpe, who managed only 238, despite Tony Goodin’s 69.

BARKISLAND face Premiership leaders Scholes in the Sykes Cup final at Elland on August 9 after winning yesterday’s semi-final at Kirkburton by 21 runs.

Barkisland, who last lifted the trophy in 2008, recovered from a poor start to reach 233 all out in their 50 overs.

They were floundering at 36-4 after 11 overs and were still in trouble at 70-5 after 23 overs before Luke Bridges (89) and Seth Oddy (46) rescued them by sharing a crucial sixth wicket stand of 114.

Kirkburton’s Craig Fletcher claimed 3-44 and Javaid Ahmad 3-37.

In reply, Kirkburton were struggling at 90-5 but then looked favourites when Iqbal Khan (91) and Fletcher (51) put on 92 for the sixth wicket.

However, they suffered a major setback when Fletcher was run out.

With five overs remaining, Kirkburton were still in with a good chance at 202-6 but Darren Robinson then swung the match firmly in Barkisland’s favour with a double wicket maiden over.

Robinson finished with figures of 3-48 and Jake Finch snapped up 3-39 as Kirkburton lost their last four wickets for just 10 runs.

A SEASON’S BEST 5-42 from Alex Fox helped Follifoot beat North Leeds and moved them closer to escaping relegation.

Having been docked 79 points for fielding an ineligible player, Follifoot looked odds on to drop straight back into Division Two.

But this win over the side who came up with them last season was their third in a row and leaves them only 15 points short of safety.

Nick Robinson (85) and James Orton (63) put on 157 in Follifoot’s 237-9 but Andy Carson (43) and Taran Chana (54) kept North Leeds in the hunt only for them to fall 13 runs short.

Steeton eased their relegation worries with victory at Burley. Oliver Gledhill (59) helped them to 221 and even though teenager Sam Fox (39no) and Richard Brook (54) resisted, Burley were 18 short at the close.

Guiseley also moved a little further from the drop zone with victory at Bilton where Vic Craven (63) and Michael Donnelly (50) helped the home side to 182-4. Jamie Davey (61) and Harrison Durkin (45no) clinched Guiseley’s second win.

But there was no respite for struggling Ilkley at Beckwithshaw. Alexis Twigg (89) was top scorer in the home side’s 237-8. Ibrael Malik (79) and Rory Kroon (48) led the response but Ilkley fell four runs short.

Beckwithshaw are 10 points behind leaders Otley, who made short work of Collingham, who fell to a 9-63 spell from teenager Nicholas Bulcock, who also made an unbeaten 29 in Otley’s 215.

Rawdon beat third-placed Kirkstall. Ben Heritage (50), Kuda Samunderu (80) and Andrew Duckworth (56) took Rawdon to 267. Stephen Brown (62) and Stephen Wilkinson (64) raised Kirkstall hopes but a 4-53 spell from George Myers saw them out for 219.

Central Yorkshire

PAUL Blakeley and Umar Rehman shared a match-winning unbroken last-wicket stand of 65 as Birstall ended a three-match losing run in the Premiership by beating Batley.

Replying to Batley’s 148 that included 62 by Fawad Maqsood, Birstall were on the brink of defeat at 84-9 before Blakeley (35no) and Rehman (31no) rescued them.

Champions Methley’s lead was cut to six points when they lost to Wakefield Thornes and closest rivals Townville beat Mirfield PC.

Matt Jordan hit 53 and Matt Varley 48 as Thornes overhauled Methley’s 202-6 that included an unbeaten 62 by Ed Walmsley and 47 from twin Marcus.

Kristian Ward (101no) put on 112 with all-rounder Jack Hughes (55 and 5-41) in Townville’s seven-wicket win against Cavaliers, for whom Salman Sayed struck 87.

Greg Wood smashed an unbeaten 113 off 78 balls and shared an unbroken 193-run partnership with Darryl Hendricks (110no) in Wrenthorpe’s eight-wicket victory against Carlton, whose scoring was led by Farrukh Alam (84).

Chasing Ossett’s 262-8 that featured 85 by Gurman Randhawa and 52 by brother Rohan, Buttershaw St Paul’s fell 13 runs short, despite 46 apiece from Gary Wainwright and James Robson.

Warren Ekstraal (5-37) and Dan McTernan (40) led Hunslet Nelson to a seven-wicket win at bottom team Altofts.

Championship leaders Hopton Mills beat Oulton by 132 runs and are one point clear of Liversedge whose six-wicket victory over promotion rivals Azaad was set up by Simon Kaye (5-40).

Wakefield St Michael’s gained a fourth straight win by trouncing winless bottom team Caribbean.

Mark Atkinson (125) and James Cooper (51) led St Michael’s to 291-8 and Nick Downward (7-19) and Michael Halloran (3-15) skittled Caribbean for 39.

South Yorkshire

WHITLEY HALL and Treeton Welfare hit back in style after shock defeats the previous weekend.

Whitley were at Wath, but not for long. They won the toss, inserted Wath and bowled them out for 94.

Tom Fletcher claimed 5-10 before Australian Anthony Wilson opened the batting for Whitley and hit an unbeaten 66 to win the match in 14 overs .

Steve Foster returned for Treeton against the team who had gone above them in the table and claimed 7-28 as Tickhill collapsed to 57 all out.

Treeton won by eight wickets in 12 overs.

Aston Hall took advantage of Tickhill’s demise to replace them in the top three, beating Houghton Main.

Uzman Azeem scored 70 as Aston made 221. Rob Jones took 4-39 and Liam Rigby made 77 for Houghton but, even with the extra overs Aston donated, they could only manage 194-9, Steve Ludlam and Nick Smit taking four wickets apiece.

Elsecar are now in full cry after a poor start to the campaign.

They easily defeated Conisbrough, scoring 274-7 with Scott Jones making 66 and Paul Cummins 63 before bowling out their opponents for 155 despite Nathan Smith’s 43 as Scott Jones claimed 4-49.

Inconsistent Wickersley had a better day, bowling out Darfield for 165, although Peter Hadfield made 66. Haider Jahangir claimed 5-36 to set up the five-wicket win.

Coal Aston continued to haul themselves away from the bottom of the table.

Liam Johnson struck an unbeaten 142 out of 253-6 before Jonathan Bosch proved the best bowler with 4-25 as Hallam succumbed for 187 despite Nick Dymock making 54.

York Senior

Sheriff Hutton Bridge are the new leaders after beating Heworth as Scarborough suffered a shock defeat at home to Easingwold.

Mark Fisher was in excellent form for the Bridge in their six-wicket win at Elmpark Way. Fisher finished with 6-44 as, despite 61 from Neil Johnson, the home side were restricted to 173-9. Fisher then led the reply with 79 and with support from Louis Foxton (40) they reached 176-4, Ian Lynch (4-39) taking all four wickets.

Alex Carrie (124) and Mark Tennant (104no) shard a double-century stand for the second wicket out of a Scarborough total of 251-4, but Easingwold captain Mark Mierzwinski (104) shared partnerships of 115 and 97 with Stephen Piercy (60) and Martin Piercy (56) for the opening two wickets to set up victory for the visitors.

Dave Suddaby (5-36) and Andrew Horner, with a career best 5-38, shared all 10 wickets as Woodhouse Grange kept up the pressure on the sides above them with victory over Clifton Alliance.

The visitors were bowled out for 93, and then Andrew Bilton (39) and Nick Hadfield (47no) saw the hosts home with seven wickets in hand.

Acomb extended their unbeaten run to six matches at the expense of hosts Beverley. Matthew Dale scored an unbeaten 116 and Scott Nicholls 39 as the visitors scored 171-1 in reply to 167.

The day’s closest finish came at Fenner where Stamford Bridge got home with their final pair at the crease.
