Yorkshire leagues: Round-up for weekend of July 18-19

Yorkshire ECB

Doncaster Town ended a six-match losing streak in spectacular fashion, fired to victory by a 211-run stand from openers Gareth Cox (104) and Rhys Mann (94no), who chased down Castleford’s 214 with nine wickets to spare.

David Wainwright (101) starred for Castleford but Graeme Attenborough (5-62) together with two wickets each from Lewis Brown and Luke Townsend stopped them getting out of sight.

Rotherham Town missed the chance to go back on top of the league when they went down by four wickets to York. Mark Cummins (54) top scored in Rotherham’s 234-8 but stands in the 60s between Simon Lambert and Liam McKendry, and Ryan McKendry and Alex Collins, helped York to victory.

Ali Asad (138) and George Drury (100) put on 210 for the second wicket as Driffield set a target of 283-6 but Harrogate made light of it thanks to Connor Ryan (70), a rapid 37 from Sam Davies and an unbroken 198-run stand between Jonathan Tattersall (78no) and James Latham (89no).

Collegiate’s Matthew Dixon (6-24) picked up six wickets for the second week in a row and with Matt Lee (3-39) dismissed Sheffield United for 151 despite the efforts of Bilal Anjam (35) andWaqar Ahmed (51), who put on 84 for the second wicket.

Openers Tom Dunn (69no) and Dan Priestley (36) shared a century stand for the second time this season against United and Will Root (30no) smashed five fours and a six to clinch victory.

Yorkshire Academy’s Jared Warner and James Logan each picked up three cheap wickets as bottom club Hull slumped from 104-4 to 113 all out. Eliot Callis (53no) and Ben Ainsley (51no) knocked off the runs in 106 balls.

Bradford

WOODLANDS maintained the pressure on leaders Pudsey St Lawrence by winning the match of the day in the First Division.

Former Yorkshire player Gary Fellows maintained his wonderful form with 106 as fellow title contenders Hanging Heaton made 259-7 at Albert Terrace, adding 136 for the fifth wicket with Ismail Dawood (76).

Hosts Woodlands were behind the run rate for much of their reply. Their innings was given late impetus by Safraz Ahmed, whose 38 off 17 balls enabled them to win by three wickets with seven balls to spare, Logan Weston (51), Scott Richardson (45) and Jordan Laban (37no) also contributing, though Grant Soames suffered a recurring injury.

St Lawrence beat bottom side Saltaire, who were dismissed for 140 after the hosts had made 244-8, of which Mark Robertshaw and Chris Marsden both scored 65 and Adam Waite 51, the latter putting on 113 for the first wicket with Robertshaw.

Cleckheaton, third on 204 points (St Lawrence have 228 and Woodlands 222), had a three-wicket victory at home to Farsley.

Greg Pickles (71) and Yorkshire wicketkeeper Dan Hodgson (70)
took Farsley to 234-8 but lost in 38 overs as John Wood made 66 and Tim Jackson 63, as James Thorp took 5-11.

Suleman Khan took 3-20 and hit an unbeaten 58 as Lightcliffe beat Undercliffe by two wickets with just two balls to spare.

Yorkshire off-spinner James Middlebrook (5-36) and former Yorkshire bowler Mark Lawson (4-27) restricted East Bierley to 142, and former Bierley player Lee Goddard (69no) sped New Farnley home in 29.4 overs.

Pudsey Congs’ Callum Geldart cracked 21 fours and six sixes in his 177 their 283-9 against Bradford & Bingley, who made 251.

Aire Wharfe

Stephen Brown starred as Kirkstall Education kept up their pressure on the top two with a 51-run win over Steeton.

Brown (72) top-scored in his side’s 301-7 and then picked up five wickets to thwart the efforts of Stephen Pearson (62), Tom Stead (48) and James Emmott (47) to chase down the total.

Martin Kellaway (48) was the only North Leeds batsman to get to grips with Beckwithshaw’s Istikhar Hussain, whose 10 overs produced 3-9.

Mark McEarney (3-23) and Alex Lilley (2-22) helped dismiss the home side for 101 and Miles Buller hit an unbeaten half-century as second-placed Beckwithshaw cruised to victory.

With Beckwithshaw unable to pick up any batting bonus, Otley edged a little further ahead at the top of the table with a nine-wicket win over Rawdon.

James Davies took 4-36 as Rawdon fell for 176, a total largely due to a fine 75 from No 7 Ryan Gladwin. Ben Morley scored an unbeaten 110, including 18 fours, to see Otley home.

Rory Kroon (67) was top-scorer in Ilkley’s 199 with Vic Craven taing 4-30. Craven hit 33 and a century stand between Paul Cannings (66no) and David Hardcastle (38) clinched Bilton’s win.

Follifoot climbed off the bottom of the table after half-centuries from James Riley and Tom Clayton helped them to 222-8.

Burley looked on course but lost their last five wickets for 16 runs to fall 16 short of victory, Sam Gascoyne (3-41) and Alex Fox (4-32) doing the damage.

Jack Harrison (81) and Toby Jacklin (76) put on 161 as Collingham eased to 258-5 and then restricted Guiseley to 219-9 with Jacklin taking 3-43.

In Division Two, Nick Smith included a hat-trick in his 5-22 and was not out 27 as Adel won by five wickets against Harden.

Drakes Huddersfield

CHAMPIONS Hoylandswaine’s hopes of lifting the Premiership title for the third time in four years were rocked when they lost at Shelley.

Shershan Naidoo hit an unbeaten 92 and captain Greg Wadsworth 83 as Shelley chased down 298 with two overs to spare.

Gharib Nawaz (81), Alex Morris (79) and Max Joice (65) led Hoylandswaine’s scoring in a five-wicket defeat that left them 13 points adrift of leaders Scholes.

Tom Chadwick (84) and Peter Drysdale (44) steered Scholes to an eight-wicket win at Broad Oak, who fell for 154 against Jono Boult (4-55) and Josh Brook (3-26).

Chris Laker (126) and Greg Buckley (69) put on 147 as Delph & Dobcross piled up 300-7 at Golcar, whose reply fell 32 runs short, despite half-centuries by Steve Whitwam and Craig Ruscoe.

All-rounders Robin Broom (115 and 3-62) and Siraj Sajid (64 and 5-45) were Elland’s match-winners against bottom team Slaithwaite while Tim Sykes (51), Aaron Crispe (49), Tim Taylor (49) and Simon Kelly (46) gave Honley the edge against Barkisland.

Amar Rashid (84) and Tom Denton (70) shared a 106-run stand as Shepley overhauled Kirkburton’s 245-7 that included half-centuries by Asif Hussain, Javaid Ahmad and Iqbal Khan.

Skelmanthorpe improved their chances of avoiding relegation when Liam Fletcher’s unbeaten 68 guided them to a six-wicket victory at Moorlands.

Cawthorne increased their lead in the Championship to six points when they betKirkheaton and rivals Armitage Bridge lost to Thongsbridge.

Bradley Birkhead (134) and Jacob Waterson (118no) shared a 220-run partnership in Conference leaders Rastrick’s win at Emley.

Central Yorkshire

JAMES Glynn produced the CYL’s best bowling performance this season by bagging 9-11 from 6.4 overs as Wrenthorpe continued their winning run by trouncing Ossett.

South African Darryl Hendricks, the top-flight’s leading scorer this year, took his tally to 737 runs by hitting 90 off 91 balls and putting on 106 with Sam Wigglesworth (59) as Wrenthorpe posted 238-7.

Opening bowler Glynn routed Ossett for 39, with none of their batsmen reaching double figures.

The only wicket Glynn did not capture was that of Yorkshire’s Richard Pyrah, who was caught by Chris Leaf off Jordan Sleightholme for a duck.

Champions Methley increased their lead to eight points with a six-wicket win against Batley, who were toppled for 104 by Marcus Walmsley (3-31), twin Ed 
(2-10) and Ben Waite (2-22).

Kristian Ward (75) and Jack Hughes (58) shared a century stand for second-placed Townville, who were denied maximum points at Hunslet Nelson.

Openers Matt Jordan (63) and James Wolfenden (46) put on 105 and David Toft struck an unbeaten 83 off 79 balls as Wakefield Thornes beat Carlton by eight wickets.

Parish Cavaliers all-rounder Nazar Hussain smashed 10 sixes in an unbeaten 119 off 69 deliveries and snapped up 4-26 in a 160-run win against St Paul’s, who slipped to the foot of the table when Altofts climbed above them by ended their slump at Birstall.

Jonathon Donnelly (4-16) and Myles Robinson (3-37) bowled out Birstall for 112, replying to Altofts’ 268-7 that featured a century by Joshua Drummond.

Wakefield St Michael’s continued their climb in the Championship with their fifth straight win by beating Oulton by seven wickets.

South Yorkshire

aston hall’s Steve Ludlam destroyed Coal Aston.

He bowled six of his victims in a rich seam of 8-17 as Aston were dismissed for just 36 in 12 overs.

It is not the lowest score in the league’s history – that dubious honour goes to Beighton, who were all out for 8 against Mexborough in 1961 – but there can not be many sides who have taken just 27 balls to get their winning total.

In a day of remarkable performances, Matthew Edmondson – Division Two Upper Haugh’s New Zealander – struck Wickersley Seconds’ attack for a league record 257.

His knock included 41 fours and nine sixes in helping them to 405-4 – only 16 off the team record.

Whitley Hall lost for the third time in four league games as Wickersley gained revenge for their Whitworth Cup semi-final defeat by scoring 236-7 (Jordan Lowe 61) and bowling out Whitley for 219.

Iftikhar Afzal (5-54) came back decisively as Whitley collapsed from 206-5 (Sam Chatterton 55).

Treeton are top after Steve Foster scored 127 out of 323-7 (Charlie Roebuck 95) and took 5-26 to leave Darfield 233 all out despite Charlie Kaye’s 78.

Wath at last got a win, chasing down Elsecar’s 230-7 with five wickets in hand as junior Harvey Wooton’s 80 trumped Paul Cummins’s 70 and Ainsley Swallow’s 56.

Nick Dymock had a nasty experience but his 52 led Hallam past Tickhill’s 131 with four wickets to spare. Dymock was flattened by a bouncer from Steve Reid, collapsed onto his stumps and had to go to hospital but it proved just a precautionary visit.

Conisbrough made 253-8 through Michael Blakemore’s 63 before dismissing Houghton Main for 145 (Arosh Janoda 6-56).

York Senior

Sheriff Hutton Bridge increased their lead in the Premier Division as nearest rivals Scarborough lost for the second week running.

They extended their unbeaten run to seven matches thanks to Russell Robinson, who produced the division’s best bowling performance of the season, taking 7-29 as Studley Royal were dismissed for 132, despite an unbeaten 48 from Dan Craven.

That came in reply to the home side’s 189 all out, Daniel Foxton top scoring with 55 as Steven Walmsley took 5-43.

Hull Zingari produced a surprise, beating Scarborough by 209 runs at North Marine Road. Jack Storey (149) scored a second century in three matches and Guy Martinson made 53 before an unbeaten 48 from Matthew Bunn helped the visitors reach 335-3.

The home side responded with just 126, of which Alex Carrie made 71, as they had no answer to Andrew Hamson (6-42) and Matthew Wilkinson (4-27).

Acomb had the better of a draw at home to Dunnington. Tom Neal, having signed from Heworth during the week, marked his debut with 40 and Andy Tute (77) and Scott Nicholls (65) scored half-centuries in the host’s total of 276-5.

Jack Bolam scored the first century by a Dunnington batsman this season and his 134 lead a spirited reply which came within 16 runs of victory.

SUNDAY

Jack Hampshire Trophy

Holders Methley will host Wrenthorpe in the final at Little Church Lane on Sunday, August 16.

It is a repeat of the 2013 final that Methley prevailed in by 26 runs.

Premiership leaders Methley, aiming to complete a league and cup double for the second successive season, avenged the previous week’s league defeat at Wakefield Thornes by beating them by four wickets yesterday.

Marcus Walmsley (3-23) and Mustafa Bashir (3-43) had Thornes floundering at 56-6 before Tom Froggett (38) and Jared Warner (25) led a fightback with a seventh-wicket stand of 65 as they finished on 143-9.

Methley’s reply started badly when they lost opener Richard Foster in the first over but Marcus Walmsley then struck 72 off 65 balls and shared a second-wicket partnership of 109 with Luke Patel (36) to put them well on their way.

Methley survived a scare when Thornes all-rounder Warner (5-26) sent them collapsing from 109-1 to 121-6.

In the other semi-final, Alex Mitchell (44), Andrew McIntosh (31) and Jack Scanlon (31) gave Hunslet Nelson a solid start against Wrenthorpe before Greg Wood (4-27), James Glynn (2-28) and Mark Bentley (2-24) sent them reeling from 89-1 to 148 all out.

Will Stiff (2-42) reduced Wrenthorpe’s reply to 34-2 but Greg Wood and captain Neil Bourke ended Hunslet’s hopes.

Wood struck an unbeaten 69 off 60 balls and put on 113 for the third wicket with Bourke (38) as Wrenthorpe eased to a seven-wicket win in 26.5 overs.

Heavy Woollen Cup

Woodlands will take on Hoylandswaine in the Heavy Woollen Cup final at Ossett on Sunday, August 2.

Huddersfield League champions Hoylandswaine reached the final in their first apppearance in the competition with a 37-run run win over last season’s beaten finalists Townville.

Openers Alex Morris (76) and Gharib Nawaz (45) put on 119 as Hoylandswaine posted 268-9 in their 50 overs.

Former Leicestershire county player Peter Hepworth was Townville’s best bowler with 3-27.

In reply, Central Yorkshire League club Townville, aiming to reach the final for the third time in four seasons, slipped to 108-5 before Conor Harvey (62) and captain Nick Bresnan (40) gave them hope with a sixth-wicket stand of 101.

But the Castleford side were eventually all out for 231 after losing their last five wickets for 22 runs.

Hoylandswaine’s Ben Potter and Kesrick Williams each claimed three wickets.

Holders Pudsey Congs lost by 134 runs to Woodlands in an all-Bradford League semi-final.

Woodlands were in trouble at 64-5 before Jordon Laban (49) and Greg Finn (32) rescued them by putting on 73 for the sixth wicket as they finished on 189.

Congs’s main wicket-takers were Gareth Philips (3-28), Mustafa Rafique (3-39) and Kez Ahmed (2-32).

In reply, Luke Holroyd (13) and Joe Greaves (11) were the only batsmen who reached double figures as Congs were skittled for 55 after slumping to 39-8.

Sarfraz Ahmed bagged 4-10, Duncan Snell (3-10) and Elliot Richardson (3-29).

Waddilove Cup

Odge Davey and Vic Craven steered Bilton to victory over cup holders and hot favourites Otley and a place in the final against Burley.

Otley had two league victories over their rivals already this season, bowling them out for just 84 earlier this month.

Another comfortable afternoon looked on the cards when Bilton lost their first three wickets for 18 but then Davey, who hit 10 fours and four sixes in his 112, put on 103 for the fourth wicket with Ryan Bradshaw (51). Will Liddle weighed in with a useful 25 and Bilton set a target of 244-9.

Craven trapped Jamie Pickering with the third ball of Burley’s innings on his way to 4-26 and also picked up a couple of catches as Otley were bowled out for 144.

Mustahsan Shah (3-18) took the key wicket of James Davies (51), the only Otley player to show the form that has made them the top team in the league this season.

It’s nine years since Bilton completed a hat-trick of cup wins but they face a formidable cup fighters in Burley, who have won it nine times in all, three of those in the last five years.

Chris Gordon (54), Mark Gilliver (39) and Andy Robinson (22no) helped Horsforth to 181-9 which looked within comfortable reach when openers Tom Day (39) and Sami Rehman (44) put on 91.

But Matthew Wainwright (4-31) started to make inroads, Harry Brook was run out on 33 and Burley were relieved to clinch victory with one ball and two wickets in hand.
