Yorkshire open Champions League account with victory

Yorkshire defeated Uva Next in a dramatic opening Twenty20 Champions League game in Johannesburg.

Yorkshire won by five wickets with three balls to spare after a match-winning performance by South African batsman David Miller.

Sri Lankan side Uva Next scored 150-7 in their 20 overs and looked on course for victory, especially after Yorkshire lost Miller on 22 when he received hit to the eye with the ball.

However, despite admirable progress from Adil Rashid, Lee Hodgson was dismissed in the penultimate over leaving Yorkshire requiring 18 runs off 10 balls to win.

Miller returned to the crease and promptly smacked three boundaries for 14 runs to change the course of the match. He hit the winning run as the English Twenty20 Cup runners-up won their first game.

They now need to beat Trinidad and Tobago tomorrow (Wednesday) in their final Qualifying Group A game to top the table and advance to the tournament proper.
