Yorkshire take three wickets

ANTHONY MCGRATH is closing in on his second County Championship century of the season on the second day of Yorkshire’s match against Derbyshire at Headingley Carnegie.

After play began at 11.15am following early rain, Derbyshire advanced from 28-1 to 98-4 at lunch, 173 runs short of avoiding the follow-on.

All the wickets fell to Ryan Sidebottom - and all were spectacularly caught by debutant wicketkeeper Andrew Hodd.

Beneath leaden skies, Sidebottom struck in his third over of the morning from the Rugby Stand end when he removed Usman Khawaja for three.

The batsman clipped a leg-side delivery and Hodd, diving full-length to his right, took a magnificent one-handed catch.

Derbyshire slipped to 34-3 in Sidebottom’s next over when Matt Lineker perished for 14. This time, Hodd flung himself to his left to claim the ball in front of first slip.

Sidebottom picked up his third wicket when Hodd again flung himself to his left to dismiss Dan Redfern for three.

Derbyshire recovered well through Wes Durston, who is unbeaten on 50 at the break, made from 69 balls with eight fours.

Durston had his moments of fortune - notably when he edged Tim Bresnan just wide of the slips on a couple of occasions - but he showed plenty of fight in the testing conditions.

Ross Whiteley (7) is the other not out batsman, with heavy rain forecast for later this afternoon.
