Curtain raises on new Knights era

An era of Friday night rugby begins at Castle Park as Doncaster Knights welcome Bristol.

The Knights are hopeful a new group of fans, on top of their existing support base, will be attracted to the club in a fixture switch they have put in place for the entire Championship season.

Attendances average out at around the 1,000-mark for Doncaster with head coach Brett Davey confident the Friday fixture can have a positive effect.

Of more immediate concern for Davey is the performance of his team, whom he felt let themselves down in their opening-day defeat to Plymouth.

“We’ve got to exorcise a few demons from last week,” he said from a game in which they picked up only a losing bonus point.

“That was probably our worst performance since I’ve been at the club.”
