Lizzie Armitstead won Saturday’s Grand Prix de Plouay-Bretagne to claim the UCI Women’s Road World Cup series title for a second straight year.
The 26-year-old from Otley beat Emma Johansson (Orica AIS) and world champion Pauline Ferrand Prevot (Rabo Liv) after a late attack to win the French race.
British and Commonwealth Games champion Armitstead (Boels Dolmans) reclaimed the series lead from Anna van der Breggen (Rabo Liv) to defend the title she won in 2014.
Armitstead wrote on Twitter: “Thank you @boelsdolmansct we did it, a win today and the overall World Cup Victory is ours. Proud as punch.”
