Daley bids for world glory in Sheffield

WORLD 10metre platform champion Tom Daley will spearhead the British team when they compete in the FINA/Li-Ning Diving World Series in Sheffield on April 23-24.

Daley, who captured the world title in Rome last summer aged just 15, will visit Ponds Forge for the final leg of the series along with other top domestic names like Peter Waterfield, Rebecca Gallantree of Leeds and Nick Robinson-Baker as they take on the world's best divers from China, USA and Australia.

National performance director Alexei Evangulov said: "This competition in Sheffield will provide our athletes with a fantastic opportunity to compete in the FINA/Li-Ning Diving World Series without the disadvantage of jet-lag and I am hoping for some great results on home soil as a result.

"I am looking forward to seeing our new women's 3m synchro team compete because in the past, this hasn't been our strongest event and so it will be important to see how they do.

"Rebecca (Gallantree] and Alicia (Blagg], who secured fourth place in the Moscow Grand Prix, are diving together and they are an improving pair. It will be good for them to test themselves against the world's top synchro teams."
